Today, we had children’s author Andy Klein come and visit our TK- 2nd grade classrooms! He shared two of his books with our students and they were able to ask questions about being an author.
Today, our Safe School Ambassadors hosted “Mix it Up” day. Students were given slips with words or pictures on them and had to find their match in another class. Once matches were found, the students had lunch together. Hopefully some new friendships were made today! 🌸

Several weeks ago in science lab, 6th grade were tasked with building houses out of recycled materials that could withstand the blast from a pyroclastic cloud. The students were so excited to see that some of the houses were still standing after the blast!
Last Friday was Throwback Day. Students and staff dressed in clothing from their favorite decade. During our Cub Rally, staff and students competed in an 80’s trivia challenge. We also honored the last of our students visiting from China this school year.

Castaic Families and Staff,
As an update to the threat on Castaic Elementary last week, I want to inform you that the suspect is still in custody. We are worki...ng closely with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to ensure that students and staff are safe. The district has secured a restraining order against the suspect. We have decided to remove the private security for the time being as the suspect is still in custody. Our intent is to use those resources if the suspect is released. The safety of students is our highest priority. We will continue to work collaboratively with our local law enforcement to provide us with their expertise on keeping our campus safe..
A message from our Superintendent:
This morning CUSD Administrative Staff met with Captain Lewis and several officers from LASD at Castaic Elementary. The purp...ose of the meeting was to have a conversation about the need for collaborative efforts and open communication to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Additionally, the officers provided some excellent suggestions to make the campus more secure and were visible to students and staff. As a follow up to the active shooter training held prior to school starting, we discussed utilizing LASD to observe and provide feedback for announced and unannounced lockdown drills for all school sites. Members of the media were present and look for more information to be released by KHTS and the Signal.
The suspect's name has been released by on the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station Facebook page. The suspect is identified as Michael Petett. We have been assured that we will receive 72 hours notice when the suspect is released. The district does have a restraining order against Mr. Petett. We will have security in place upon Mr. Petett's release. Again, we are in constant communication with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and are releasing information as they provide it. The Sheriff's Department recommends that anyone seeking additional information follow their Facebook page for updated information.
