Centre Queers & AlliesCampus Building in Danville, Kentucky
Hey guys! In bitter acknowledgment of the summer's home stretch, I'd like to introduce your new officers. I'm McKenzie Bottoms, rising sophomore, posting as treasurer. Maddie Muller, also rising sophomore, will be our president. Katie Coldiron, rising junior, is secretary. We're trying really hard to keep this club afloat, but since due to orchestra I've never been to a meeting, we're going to need your input and support. Is there anything you want to see Queers & Allies involved in, either an old tradition or something completely new? We're starting from scratch, which can be a good thing, but we need your help.
tl;dr: We ARE going to be a club this year, and we ARE going to be a safe, proactive, educated, educating community. Anything anyone can do to help us achieve that is enormously appreciated.
Calling for 2014-2015 officers! We could really use your help to get this club off the ground and flying again. Officer will have to be elected and submitted to SGA by April 11th, so please message Marlena Alleva or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in a position -president, treasurer, vp/secretary. We need you or we won't exist! Thank you!
Hey, lovelies... recognize some people we know and love supporting KY fairness? Want to join them? Show your support at the upcoming rally, Feb. 19 in Frankfort.
Happy Holidays! Celebrate with a lovely song from Stars! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaRQV9vcIRs
QPR training (a simple suicide prevention program that teaches you how to recognize a mental health emergency and how to get a person at risk the help they need) is happening TONIGHT at 8:30 in Room 201 of the campus center.
The illustrious Kathy Miles will be leading us, and It will last an hour. Come learn how to help save lives!
Queer issues, gender issues, the election, centre professors, and you. It's all happening!
Remember all the enlightening discussions in the Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates about queer and gender issues that really effectively cleared things up about each candidate's respective platform?
Right. Neither do we.
Here to fill this void is Thrill in the Ville: Queerness and Gender in this Election, taking place this Thursday (11/1), 11:30-12:30 in the Ewen room of the Campus Center. It's an informal hour-long discussion with some of Centre's hippest and most k...nowledgeable professors: Dr. Badie, Dr. Beaudoin, Dr. Knoll, and Dr. Pierce. They'll share their opinions and experiences, but most importantly they'll answer any questions you have about queer and gender issues in this election!
Here are some issues--among others--we'll be considering:
- How has the discussion of gender and gendered rights evolved over the past several Presidential elections?
- How might the term "women's issues" be exclusionary in the wider gender discourse, including reproductive rights and pay equity?
- Assuming marriage equality becomes institutionalized, what do you see as the next mainstream issue for the LGBT community?
- What's the significance of not talking about queer issues in the debates? Could this be seen as a positive?
Come with questions, come with friends, and come ready to learn about these issues that have implications for all people, no matter who you are. We'll see you there!
Come one, come all to Q&A's Ugly Sweater Party! Tonight, 9-10, at Hillside D. There will be joy, refreshments, and sick tunes. Until then, enjoy this: http://uglysweaters.files.wordpress.com/2010/…/img_5477.jpg….
