Marshall Rosenberg - In Loving Memory ❣️
Here is one of my favourite 'Marshall Songs' to sing when I facilitate Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Workshops - it embodies our 'imperfect' selves as we aspire to Live Compassionately. For me, Marshall captured in his song the essence of vulnerability and authenticity while longing to express the quality of compassion and unconditional love in everyday life

I Want To Live Compassionately
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwekiNlr...A4U

I’m not exactly satisfied
With everything I’ve been doing
At the time of my life
But my goals need reviewing

I want to live compassionately
At each and every opportunity
I want to give away
The love that’s mine to give
I want to live compassionately

I’ve taken some chances more than once
And got my fingers burned
Done some things I wouldn’t have done
If I knew what I since have learned

But I’m learning to live compassionately
At each and every opportunity
I want to give away
The love that’s mine to give
I want to live compassionately

I’m adding to the list of people
I call family
I want that list to include everyone
Who is was or ever will be

I want to live compassionately
At each and every opportunity
I want to give away
The love I have to give
I want to live compassionately ❣️

We have been trained to be nice dead people or bullies. When you are in a position of authority you are justified in being a bully. You don't call yourself a bully - you call yourself an authority. In domination systems authorities are given legal power to bully through the system of deserve, in which punishment, rewards and other forms of coercion get you to do things.

Wellington Heart: Toward A Culture Of Love & Compassion
Tonight's Event: The Power of Empathy
Public Forum, Wednesday 29 August @ 7.00pm
Mt Vic Hub, 24E Eli...zabeth St, Mt Victoria, Wellington, NZ
(Opposite Clyde Quay School)

Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world!
'The Power of Empathy' is a means to create peace through our speech and communication. At a time when anger and violence dominate human attitudes, how do you show up in the world? Bringing about peaceful change begins with working on our own mindsets. What YOU say next will change YOUR world. Be a force for love in your surroundings.

While our usual habit is to listen from a place of judgement and evaluation, developing EMPATHY and SELF-Empathy skills bring us to a place of connection and harmony within ourselves and others. Come and join the dialogue and discussion. Learn how to speak the 'Language of the Heart'.

Take the first step towards developing an awareness and consciousness of harmlessness for yourself and others - in your homes, schools, workplaces, and empathic social change within our communities.

Wellington Heart is a gathering of a diverse group of people with a powerful intent to reconnect as ‘community’ to transform our systems with care, compassion and sustainability.

We are concerned about the future of humanity and the need to be part of the change that is required. Connecting with like-hearted people is seen as the way to build capacity for that to happen.

Wellington Heart will provide a public forum for those who believe we need a compassionate, thriving, sustainable and spiritual approach with love-based and values-based politics, economics, health and educational systems towards positive social change.

The New Zealand Project:
We will look at new models based on the values of Care, Community and Creativity inspired by Max Harris and his book ‘The New Zealand Project’, in the creation of a fair and just society, where as a group, we can learn, share, and empower each other through genuine care and aroha.

Localism:
How do we work locally and think globally? We can draw some ideas and inspiration from Dr Oliver Hartwich, Executive Director of The New Zealand Initiative. His extensive experience of studying 'Localism' models in communities around the world and his passion for introducing ‘Localism’ into our local government system.

Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC):
Language is fundamental to all our relationships and the quality of lasting social change. We will integrate into our ethos the Language of the Heart, better known as Compassionate or Nonviolent Communication (NVC), founded by the late Dr Marshall Rosenberg. Speaking peace is communicating without violence, and a way of connecting with others that allow our innate Compassion and natural Empathy to flourish.

Spiritual Ecology:
Eco-Philosopher, Joanna Macy, is an environmental activist, author, scholar of Buddhism, general systems theory, and deep ecology. A respected voice in movements for peace, justice, and ecology, she interweaves her scholarship with four decades of activism. Her work helps people transform despair and apathy, in the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises, into constructive, collaborative action. It brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitude that now threaten the continuity of life on Earth.

It is hoped this forum will connect people who feel alienated by politics, economics, and helpless in the face of global environmental destruction, with a lack of trust in our systems and bureaucracies. We will look at these new models presented by Max Harris, Dr Oliver Hartwich, Dr Marshall Rosenberg and Joanna Macy. These will give us concrete inspiration as potential application in the Wellington region.

We will grow organically and be open to anything that happens, for the greater good of all people, which supports and encourages love, peace, trust and interconnectedness to lift the energy of our city, our country and our global world.

Many of our current “care” public systems have become complex, focus on power and control, are deficient in values and are affected by hypocrisy. We need to move away from that model so that when our people and our communities need care and compassion, the support networks are there for them at their most vulnerable times.

Wellington Heart is working towards a compassionate, thriving, sustainable and spiritual Wellington.

Our forums, working groups and conversations will be accessible and respectful to all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, faith, creed, ethnicity, disability or any other humanade condition.

Your voice is vital. Come and join us.

Free Entry. All Welcome.

Koha/Donation gratefully accepted towards cost of venue and refreshments.

Gratitude for the gift of life is the primary wellspring of all religions, the hallmark of the mystic, the source of all true art. Yet we so easily take this gift for granted. That is why so many spiritual traditions begin with thanksgiving, to remind us that for all our woes and worries, our existence itself is an unearned benefaction, which we could never of ourselves create. ~ Joanna Macy

Let’s talk for a minute about “tolerance.” There are a lot of people that I can’t stand being around. And they are my best gurus. They teach me about what’s going on in me that makes it hard to see the divine energy in them. I want to learn from anything that keeps me from connecting to that energy. Fortunately, there are a lot of people I can’t stand; I have a lot of learning opportunities. I practice. I ask, “What does this person do that is a trigger for my judging them?”

Many people believe that it’s more humane to use reward than punishment. But both of them I see as 'power over' others, and Nonviolent Communication is based on 'power with' people. And in 'power with' people, we try to have influence not by how we can make people suffer if they don’t do what we want, or how we can reward them if they do. It’s a power based on mutual trust and respect, which makes people open to hearing one another and learning from one another, and to giving... to one another willingly out of a desire to contribute to one another’s well-being, rather than out of a fear of punishment or hope for a reward.

"Reach Out To Life" ~ Flashmob in Marseille, France 💕 🎶🎵
Song written by Marshall Rosenberg...
Reach out to life
Like leaves to sun
Like plants to rain...
Like birds to grain
Reach out to life

So many times
In so many ways
We’re afraid to give
Afraid to live
So many times

Now let’s celebrate
The joys of life
Each little breath
From birth to death
Let’s celebrate

Reach out to life
Like leaves to sun
Like plants to rain
Like birds to grain
Reach out to life

When we are in touch with our unmet need we never feel shame, guilt, self-anger, or the depression that we feel when we think that what we did was wrong. We feel sadness, deep sadness, sometimes frustration, but never depression, guilt, anger, or shame. Those four feelings tell us we are making moralistic judgments at the moment we are feeling those feelings. Anger, depression, guilt, and shame are the product of the thinking that is at the base of violence on our planet.

Wellington Heart Forum: Empathy Matters (held on 25 July @ 7pm) ❣️
Empathy is a quality of character that can change the world! 🌏🌎🌍
We had a wonderful Heartful Forum playing in the field of Feelings and Needs, where we shared what was alive for us. It's been said many of us live our lives in quiet desperation, without the vocabulary to give our sorrow words. Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC) gives us tools to build emotional intelligence, develop self-awareness and... to express what's alive in us without judgement of oneself and others. Fundamentally, one of our deepest needs is to be seen and heard and to know we matter.

The 3 x photos below are all the Feelings (red) and Needs (blue) of a person who attended. Simply put, Feelings (transient) alert us to the Needs (immutable) that we long for at any given moment in our lives. The person indicated, going through a pending marriage break-up, was absolutely moved and grateful to be seen and heard with empathy, to be held in community, and to witness the clarity of his Feelings and Needs come alive, by simply naming them! It gave him hope. He will communicate these to his estranged wife, trusting it will open up an empathic connection between them and help to save their 25 year marriage. Words have power. What you say next will change your world. Learn the Language of the Heart for Life 💕

Before You Push The Chair: Mental Health and Suicide 😥💕
Irish poet, Stephen Murphy performs his powerful poem “Before You Push The Chair” having lost many friends to suicide. “I wrote it a couple of years ago just to try and get a handle on my own struggle with the black dog. So far this year alone I've lost six friends to suicide. Of all I've written it seems to have the deepest resonance for those who've come to hear it,” said Stephen.

Stephen Murphy ~ Before you push the chair is one of the most powerful writing by anyone in Ireland or beyond in the last few years As President Michael D. Higgins said "Stephen Murphy is the new Bard in the country"!!

Feeling the pain of the world is not a weakness. This is God-given or, put another way, an aspect of our Buddha nature. This openness of heart that characterizes the caring individual is a function of maturity. Don't ever apologize for the tears you shed on behalf of other beings. This is, in its essence, not craziness, but compassion. This capacity to speak out on behalf of others, because you have the right to, because you can suffer with them, is part of our spiritual nature. ~ Joanna Macy

Community is a more complex value. It recognises the connectedness and interdependence of people. Our strengths are developed through the work of others as well as our own efforts; our identities are the product of how we are recognised as well as how we want to be seen; and we rely on others to live and thrive. The value of community gives rise to a responsibility to be aware of the effects of actions on others, in the moment and into the future (which prompts us to reflect on our impact on the natural world). It demands, as with care, that we look outside ourselves.
