Finally some cooler weather which allows us to apply a potassium fertilizer (along with ammonium fertilizer which aids in absorbtion) to improve formation and size of chestnuts.

Once again we received hundreds of orders from long-time customers as well as some new customers, many placing multiple orders over a 30 day period and we sold out on November 5, 2017.

Thanks again for your continued support of our family farm, both financially and with words of encouragement.

Crop update - we should finish the last of our harvest this week, most trees are bare but still some trees dropping. This year's harvest is a little below 2016 but nut size is bigger.

We've been selling for 20 days and about 75% of are harvest has been sold so maybe we'll sell out in 10-14 days, though this is hard to accurately predict.

Thanks again for your continued support of our family farm!

We've just activated our ordering page for the Large size of Marroni chestnuts. The Extra Large size may be available by the weekend if inventory is adequate to accomodate anticipated orders. Please visit www.chestnuts.us/order.htm

Harvest is progressing very well at a faster pace than prior years. This is keeping us very busy so you may experience delays in replies to messages and emails. Thank you for your patience!

Harvest of our Italian marroni has not yet started. It is next to impossible to accurately predict harvest dates as this is primarily weather dependent. Warm early springs result in earlier flowering but temperatures that cool down after that or are extremely hot slow down the growth of chestnuts and this year we fluctuated from above average temperatures to periods that were below average. Usually we need to be harvesting 5-10 days before we have enough supply on hand to ...start taking orders (if we start taking orders too soon we can't fill orders as they are received and then would get busy answering emails asking "where's my order?" when we need to remain focused on harvesting chestnuts every day as they drop.

Looking back over the past several years, these were the days we began our harvest:
September 22, 2008
September 28, 2009
September 25, 2010
October 3, 2011
September 20, 2012
September 17, 2013
September 13, 2014
September 23, 2015
September 16, 2016

We had one marroni drop on Friday (one nut!) and it's likely we will get started later this week with some nice warm (but not hot) weather returning. It's probably unlikely that we will be taking orders until sometime in the first week of October. Rest assured, we expect to have a good harvest with good supplies but just a bit later than the past five years.

Thank you for your patience!

Hello Facebook followers! We began taking orders this season five weeks ago and finished harvesting almost three weeks ago and, currently, we have just under 10 percent of our crop left. To avoid disappointment for our closest fans, we felt it best to make this notice. It's likely that we will sell out in about a week (guessing anywhere from 5-10 days, but this post will probably result in it coming closer to 5 than 10). If you wish to order before we run out, please visit our order page at www.chestnuts.us/order.htm

We had a record harvest this year but also record sales pace. We thank you for your continued support and hope you all enjoyed our marroni chestnuts. Thanks, obrigado, grazie, etc.! 🌰🌰🌰🌰🌰

Our order page now has a small version of this photo which is linked to a larger version to help visually show the three sizes we sort our marroni into. All sizes have the same taste and texture, something many people often assume to not be the case based on the sizes of other types of chestnuts they have purchased elsewhere.

Today we finished the very last of this year's harvest. It's been a good year with nice weather with our first rains coming yesterday (and more tonight). We had a record harvest which was 46% more than in 2015 (2015 was down from 2014 due to drought). And sales are again at a record pace with 64% of the crop already sold.

A higher percentage of this year's crop came into the Medium size category. Sales of these are going at a record pace as well but these will probably be... the last to sell out. We consider these to be a good value, priced $1.25/pound less than the Large size. We were joking that maybe by pricing them this much lower some customer think they're inferior so maybe we should increase the price! Many customers actually prefer this size and place large orders for them every year. If you haven't tried this size before, we suggest you consider including some in your next order.

We've shipped many orders of the Large size of Italian Marroni chestnuts this past week. We now have adequate inventory of the Extra Large and Medium sizes and are now accepting orders for these as well. Please visit our ordering page at http://www.chestnuts.us/order.htm

Thank you!

We are now taking orders with our first shipments to be made on Monday. At the present time, we are only taking orders for the Large size as our inventory of Extra Large and Medium size is not sufficient yet.

Please understand that our top priority is getting the chestnuts harvested every day as they drop so that they can be promptly sorted, washed, and refrigerated. This may mean that some delays in shipping may take place if our harvest activities don't allow enough time ...for shipping all orders as they come in. We'll update the status for any major delays, though that is unlikely.

The crop this year is likely to be a record amount and we hope to have chestnuts available until early to mid-November.

Please visit www.chestnuts.us/order.htm to place your order.

We're very busy getting the first of our chestnuts harvested. Here we are inspecting fir defects and then running through our sorter where they are sorted out into under-sized chestnuts and then progressing to the three sizes we sell. We hope to start taking orders by this weekend. Our order page may be found at www.chestnuts.us/order.htm

YES!!! Our Italian Marroni (chestnuts) are just starting to drop. Plan to start with a small crew next Monday and take orders sometime the following week if harvest proceeds as expected now that we've returned to warm weather. Watch for updates here!

To the best of our knowledge we are the only source for online ordering of these Italian Marroni varieties of chestnuts.

Hello everyone! We've had a great growing season and good water supply for irrigation this year. We're hoping to be able to start harvest and taking orders in about one month (late September). The orchard is mowed and trees are being irrigated. We're ready!

We will be selling out early this year. It looks like our crop will be about 25% below the record harvest we had in 2014, the first time we've had a decline since our major marroni grafting project in 2007. As of October 18th, our sales were 29% ahead of last year even though we started selling 10 days later than last year since harvest started later. It's been an incredibly busy October for us! We had some outstanding commitments for the Extra Large and Large sizes alrea...dy and are filling those with what we've been able to harvest in the past few days and won't be adding those to our order page. We still highly recommend the medium size. While larger chestnuts are impressive in appearance, the taste and texture of all sizes are the same.

We're looking forward to a larger harvest next year and considering planting more trees to keep up with the big demand for the marroni we specialize in.

Thanks again for your continued support!

Our annual email notice to subscribers went out this past weekend (the process takes over 24 hours due to limits on the number of emails our host allows us to send each hour). The response has been overwhelming with our sales records literally obliterated! It looks like we probably sold over 25% of our entire crop in less than 48 hours. Trying to handle all of the orders while still in the midst of harvest can leave us weary but we are strengthened by reading comments from... our new and long-time customers on how much they enjoy our farm fresh marroni chestnuts. We'll have a long night tonight getting paperwork and labels ready for all of our orders to be shipped tomorrow.

A few days ago it looked like our supplies of all sizes were adequate to meet the anticipated orders for at least the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we've temporarily sold out of our Extra Large size marroni. We should have adequate supplies to start taking more orders of that size this next weekend but we will probably limit order quantities. Sorry!

We get questions several times a year from new and old customers about different aspects of chestnut storage so we've added this page to help address these questions: http://www.chestnuts.us/storage.htm

I'll try to start sending out email notices tomorrow (brain is too foggy now after another very long day of working with chestnut harvest). But, since you're following our Facebook page, you don't need the email notice. You are hereby informed that we are now taking orders for all sizes of our Italian Marroni. Our next shipping day is Tuesday, October 13th (USPS is closed on Tuesday for Columbus Day). Please visit www.chestnuts.us/order.htm to place your order soon.
