What a lovely lovely Cucina :) Authentic delicious hearty food, flavoursome, and well presented. We left so satisfied! Rustic, and yet skillfully cooked. We had the beet salad to start... oh and prior... to that some tasty fresh bread with a delicious balsamic and oil dipping sauce that tasted so sweet... the beets were perfectly cooked, had that wonderful earthy flavor, with rich greens and delicious dressing ... come on ... who gets the beet salad... do it! A sensation. Then I had the ciopinno ... the waitress was so polite..."oh we have no mussels or clams in the shell this evening ... perhaps we can add some extra crab..?" It was marvelous... fat juicy scallops, perfectly cooked salmon, so much crab and slices of garlic with the most ripe tomatoes.. I couldn't stop dipping my bread in the broth. My dinner companion chose the simple cappelini with tomatoes... he asked for parmesan .. the waitress brought a fresh chunk and grated it on to his plate. We sat outside in a quaint little veranda, a little water fountain, and finished the night with a tiramisu that you needed a private booth for! Lol ... but it was that good! Everything fresh. We missed the little store along side ... it had closed and mentioned to the waitress that we had needed ice... as we left she brought us ice in 2 large ziplock bags ... what hospitality! And last but not least .. a wine tasting ... just a random free wine tasting of some of the best reds I have personally tasted in Napa. Jeff Smith from Dusinberre Cellars, Lake County. Went home with 2 bottles. Can't say enough, what a wonderful surprise. Thank you, Stefano and staff ... and great to talk about Italian cars. Phil and I will visit again whenever we can x See More

I grew up with an Italian grandmother, and the last ethnic restaurant I would patronize would be Italian. Never went to an Italian restaurant that impressed me until Cucina. Hit upon it at their origi...nal location at three corners, and was disappointed with its absence until it reappeared bigger and better in Spanish Flat. If this restaurant was in San Francisco, you wouldn't get a reservation for two months. This is a five star restaurant buried in the woods. It is literally a culinary gem in the rough. You've never tasted Italian food until you've eaten at Cucina. I could go on, but rather, do yourself a favor and treat yourself and someone special to you to a very special culinary experience. Whether you have a Caesar Salad like none other, or Carbonara that is full of richness, you will not be disappointed. Wish Stefano would move his restaurant to West Sacramento. See More

I've stopped in Cucina Italiana during my last travel in Napa Valley. My friend Michael, who lives there, told me about a special place where to taste a real italian food.

The restaurant is located ...on the Lake Berryessa, a pleasant natural reservoir situated in Napa County.

The restaurant is managed by Chef Stefano, who is a real italian "cuoco", and because we don't have much time for a whole lunch, Stefano recommended us to taste some "Bruschette con pomodorini e olio d'oliva" (slices of bread with tomatoes and olive oil) and "Carpaccio" (thinly sliced raw meat) .. very very tasty!!! Some Negramaro wine to drink and finally an espresso coffee, obviously!

Our table neighbours were a couple of bikers friends and a group of funny ladies, so I think Cucina Italiana is a place for every kind of people who want to taste authentic italian courses.

We decided, as a family to go see Chef Stefano and enjoy fresh made pasta dishes! Started with Bruschetta with fresh cherry tomatoes, fresh garlic slivers, olive oil and basil served over crusted brea...d! So good#! Then on to four different pasta dinners all prepared fresh and with a deft hand! Great conversation during and after dinner and over all a great experience. Huge helpings caused three containers to come home along with Cannoli!! Yum!! Thanks Chef!! The Malleys See More

An adventure in eating authentic Italian.

We spent a few hours today taking a leisurely drive up to the Cucina Italiana Restaurant at Spanish Flat up near Lake Berryessa. It is owned and operated by ...master chef Stefano Gusberti and he cooks authentic Italian food. If Stefano isn’t in the kitchen cooking, he’ll be at the front door welcoming you to his restaurant.

Warm, crusty bread is served with some of the best balsamic vinegar that has what I think might be minced shallots & garlic in it. It's Stefano's secret recipe and whatever is in it is worth the drive just to sit and enjoy that with a glass of wine or two.

I would have taken pictures of our lunches but by the time I thought of it, all four of our plates were licked clean.

The restaurant offers local wines including some from Berryessa Gap winery and even some from the Nichelini winery that is the oldest family owned winery in Napa County.

A tour of those two wineries and then a stop at Cucina Italiana for a meal and maybe relax with a game or two of bocce would be a grand way to spend a day.

Once again we enjoyed dining at Cuchina Italiana. Definitely NEVER disappoints!! One man kitchen- Stefano! Such great customer service, when your chef comes out og the kitchen to greet you with hug...s and handshakes- and then comes out again after the amazing meal he created, to ask you how everything was! It doesn't get any better. Thank you for the masterpiece, again! We will continue to go back as much as we can! See More

There is a NATIVE BORN ITALIAN IN THE KITCHEN...
"Straordinaria Capo"...extraordinary chef !!!
...
OK, I'm biased. My grandparents, aunts & uncles & parents are all born in Italy. I go to Italy every year & mostly to enjoy the food. The Italian sections in SF's North Beach and NY & Boston's Little Italy have very few restaurants with native born Italians & even 1st & 2nd generation Italians in the kitchen. Most of the cooks are Latins and although trained by Italians, for me there is nothing that can compared to the cooking of a native born Italian.

When we come here, and it's 1 1/2 hr drive each way (75 miles), the experience is like we've been invited to a family member's house for lunch/dinner. The chef/owner, busy as he may be, always has time to come to the table & explain ingredients in specials. He visits the tables frequently too to make sure everybody is happy with their meals. He is extremely personable as is his wait staff. Their pour of wine by the glass is extremely generous. The portions too are ample & we always take home some food for practically an extra meal so prices are reasonable. The bread is incredibly delicious & wonderful to do "La Scarpetta" ---little shoe used to dip into the olive/garlic tapenade mixture and/or clean up sauce from your plate. Don't need to get into specific menu items. Everything we've had is delicious and make sure you save room for the generous portion of "Tiramisu" which in Italian means throw me up in the air for a "Pick me Up" which this homemade delicacy, one of the lightest and best I've tasted with my Espresso, a full satisfied meal in my stomach with good Napa Valley Wine makes me feel I'm in heaven.

The drive there by all the vineyards, the rolling hills and the lake is a setting like being in "El Paese" (countryside) in the hills of Tuscany with the restaurant in a free standing building, outside seating too & a bocce ball court. On way back to Marin/San Francisco, we love driving by Lake Hennessey at Sunset which connects to the Silverado trail just south of St. Helena. People in this county are lucky your travel distance is not far to escape to Italy in Sonoma to enjoy this authentic Italian Ristorante. If they were in Southern Marin, we'd be here 2-3 times per month. Any of you locals/tourists too in San Francisco/ East & South Bays who go to the Wine Country or to Indian Casinos for the day, even off Highway 101 head for Lake Berryessa to, as it's name implies, "La Cucina Italiana"...an Italian Kitchen !!!
