You can really tell the staff care for the animals! Got my heeler mix here about a month ago and I love him 18.00 and got his first round of shots and was already neutered.

Our family adopted Sherry ( renamed Maggie) in Nov 2015. She is a ( lab / pit mix) & she is the best friend & companion we could have ever asked for. Calm, gentle, playful & loyal is she! She took 6 to show her true colors. She stays on our 6 acre property without an electric fence. She's the best thing that has ever happened to us outside having our own children. Adopt, don't shop !!!!! See More

We adopted our Tucker last Saturday, and he is a dream dog. He's so sweet, lovable, and smart. We will never know Tucker's story before the shelter found him, but we are so happy he is a part of our... family now. He is so loved already ♥. Thank you DCDS for such an amazing adoption experience, and for allowing us to give Tucker his forever home. See More

I'm very thankful!!!
My dog Fox-zee has been missing since last Sunday evening. John and Lisa have been very helpful and understanding. I keep calling them daily and they are still very nice. She w...eighs about 6 pounds and is a Pom, but at this time has been clipped down and now looks more like a Chihuahua.
She takes meds daily and is 10 yrs. old. She is not used to the outdoors. She is very friendly and will not bite and also does not bark. She is scared and wants you to help her find her way home. Please help me get Fox-zee returned home. My name is Debbie and my address is 351 S. Sandusky St. Unit C, Delaware

I have nothing but positive things to say about this shelter! My boyfriend and I adopted our "baby" from this shelter and could not have been happier. They were more than accommodating to us since we ...were driving 2 hours to adopt there. This shelter and the good hearted people who work here really seem to care about the animals in their care. I have never seen a shelter advertise dogs that have been found and ones that are up for adoption as well as they do. It's also nice to see updates on them being adopted or returned to their owners! Don't let one persons "bad experience" fool you. This is a great shelter! See More

I just like to say thank you to delaware shelter from what I seen with my experience with them on lost baby's wondering around on the streets how they take them in and they do everything possible to h...ave all lost baby's reunited with there family's & find forever loving homes . Plus they keep in contact on there baby's adopted out & they cover the full cost of spayed and neutering your new family member you bring home . And there cost is so affordable . Before you go by that next baby to bring home from a pet store or a breeders stop in and look at the beautiful baby's they have that is just as loving and caring as the puppy u see in a pet shop trust you will not be disappointed for i found my beautiful baby LaLa,who I brought home from the shelter and loving everything about her .She has truly filled the empty spot in my life . Thank you again Delaware County dog shelter. See More

Tracy, I am sorry you had such a bad experience with them! We had quite the opposite, we found two dogs on 23 north Delaware in the test pavement running loose in the rain, were able to get them in ou...r truck, called the pound and shelter, one had tags one him so we traced back the owner, I called them and we were able to give them back their dogs that night! They were even going to follow up, because come to find out the dogs live at a house alone and they were flea and tick infested! We had a guy, can't remember his name but he was great! See More

Lisa who works at the front desk does EVERYTHING possible to find homes for the pups who come in. Yes, they have rules--such as, you must come to the shelter in person and meet the dog before a hold ...can be placed--this just makes sense, anyone can say they're interested over the phone or FB. The old barn where the dogs stay is warm and cozy and they are very well cared for. Lisa does follow up after your adoption to make sure spay/neuter has been done and that your dog is doing well. We adopted Julie, found on a snowy road back in February 2015, she is a little old girl with some problems but we love her. See More

I called and left a message after hours about a dog missing recently and I was contacted by John as soon if not before they opened. They have been checking several times a day and will continue to do until we find him. These people really do care and I would suggest to always check their dogs out first if wanting to adopt. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Delaware County Dog Shelter. See More

This is really the way to go. A place who truly cares about rehoming their animals. The price is so reasonable you have enough to get the accessories that come with it. You're only paying for the l...icense. I'm sure they need all the donations they can get. See More

Please help us in wishing John King a happy retirement from the Delaware County Dog Shelter. He has worked for the shelter and the residents of Delaware County for the past 20 years where he has served as the dog warden and assistant dog warden. He was a great co-worker who was always happy to lend a hand and was everyone's "go to guy" when there was a question about the job. From Mark, Dan, Chuck and Brian, enjoy your retirement, sir- you have earned it!
