Friends of Communication,
Check out the Spring 2018 project for students in our Civic Engagement Lab (formerly the AD Team experience). Students are on a mission to motivate peers to complete an advance directive and get it notarized on National Healthcare Decisions Day (April 16).
We invite you to use their campaign website to start the conversation about end-of-life wishes with your friends and family.
We have some exciting news to share: Our website is finally live!
Please visit http://bucketlistplus1.com/ to learn more about our campaign purpose and stay up...dated as we near National Healthcare Decisions Day. Our website provides numerous resources for end-of-life planning, and shows you exactly how to learn about, talk about, plan, and notarize your own advance healthcare directive. Check it out! #BucketListPlus1
Congratulations, Dr. David Maxson, Drury '10!
David Maxson has been awarded the Alumni Association Dissertation Award by the Graduate School of Penn State. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in s...cholarship and professional accomplishment, and it is considered to be among the most prestigious available to Penn State graduate students.
Maxson’s dissertation, “Rhetorical Burials: Memorial Practices in New Orleans,” examines a range of memorializing practices in the city of New Orleans. His innovative study considers the ceremonial memorialization a long-forgotten jazz performer, victims of gun violence, a hurricane and its devastation, and the practice of white supremacy. At stake in the dissertation are the varied and lively rhetorical practices of memorialization, how those practices encounter the past, present, and future in order to re-animate or—in the case of the symbolic burials of Hurricane Katrina and white supremacy—lay to rest.
The dissertation, completed under the direction of Professor Debbie Hawhee, was successfully defended earlier this week. Congratulations Dr. Maxson!
