Andhra Pradesh gets 3 Greenfield Airports!
CBN’s dream of making Andhra Pradesh an aviation hub received a major boost with the Civil Aviation Ministry led by Ashok Gajapathi Raju giving approval for three Greenfield airports in Andhra Pradesh.
The site clearance, which is the first clearance, was given on Monday for the Bhogapuram airport in Andhra Pradesh which is about 40 km from Vizag. The Ministry has also given clearance for a Greenfield airport in Nellore and Kurnool d...istricts of Andhra Pradesh under a public-private partnership. The two airports are expected to be "no-frills airports".
CBN’s Government had earlier announced a separate aviation policy in order to boost investments and infrastructure in the state. The state is also proposing to set up AP Regional Airport Development Fund with an initial corpus of Rs. 100 crore. Andhra Pradesh offers 100% stamp duty exemption on land purchase and 100% reimbursement of electricity duty for the developers.
What is a Greenfield airport?
A Greenfield airport is typically built from scratch on an undeveloped piece of land usually outside a city. Greenfield Airport is a term used to identify a new airport, built from scratch in a new location. Similar projects that are made through simply modifying and upgrading the existing facility are called brownfield projects.
