Date Night!! We really hated the traffic, but when we came into the restaurant we got the smile back on our face!! My Paloma was fantastic!! The steak sandwich was tasty and my husband loved his S...hepherds Pie!! We went to a Kings game at Staples Center and it was so close! We will be back! Loved the food, ambiance, and service. The trio of steak in the prix fixe menu was excellent. The meats were properly seasoned. The accompanying mashed potato was to-die for.

Julio is a great server. The bbq ribs and dover sole were phenomenal and the creme brulet and lemon meringue pie were even better! I will definitely eat there every chance I get!

Fantastic place! Great history! Excellent staff! Unfortunately there are several restaurants surrounding the area that provide better quality food for considerably less money. Worth the visit though.

Service was excellent. Our party had meatloaf, salmon, spare ribs, macaroni and cheese, followed by ice cream, apple pie and cappuccino. The garlic mashed potatoes were a bit bland, as was the sautéed... spinach, but the texture of both was fine. The cappuccino was lukewarm, the apple pies had cold spots, but the rest of the food was good - flavorful without being too salty. Wine and beer choices were disappointing. See More

I thought the food was good. When we got there I felt bad for Julio who greeted us. We were there last night and apparently there was not enough staff. We made a reservation, it was not busy when we... arrived but it filled up while we were there. Another couple and my hubby and I went. It was our first time there for all 4 of us. We want to try a different Resturant every week. It was Julio and one other guy up front and they both were working it. I have never been to a Resturant where one person was wearing many, many hats!!! Where's management ? While we were there this artsy rude disgusting group came in and to our shock they threw glasses at the bar. They were very rude and the situation was inexcusable ! Any patient person would know if you are short handed, be a little patient and you will get what you need. They were not patient and did very uncalled acts! Our group of 4 felt very bad for Julio. He was our greeter, waiter, bar tender etc... and he did it with a smile! Julio, you really kept it together ? Thank you. See More

I would not say I am a regular by any means but I frequent this restaurant about once every two years for the past 15.

I was in town for an Christmas event at the music center and decided to take my... family out for dinner. I notice some subtle changes since the last time I had been there. I notice it looked like it has some miles on this old building but I don't mind a little patina so to speak. I thought it was a little odd for one of the servers to be wearing adidas tennis shoes. Not what I expect when spending 250 on dinner. Are my expectations too high?

My kids are young so they ordered off the kids menu except my oldest.She order pot pie. I had a bite. Not bad but nothing to write home about. Two of my kids had chicken fingers that had the taste of fish(first red flag)and one had mac and cheese( this will become important later)

I had the chicken fried steak and a wedge salad. The dressing was watery but I love blue cheese so I went with it. My steak was tender but had the taste of fish as well. (second red flag) This means at minimum they fry the steak in the same oil as the fish and chips and possibly that the oil is old. My wife had linguini with shrimp. She enjoyed it.
For desert the kids had their Ice cream which came with their meal and my wife and I shared the cream brûlée. This was the best part of my meal.

I had two drinks..... their version of a manhattan and my wife had glass of wine. Both were fine but the glass of wine looked like it was about 2 oz shy of a standard 8 oz glass.

(This is where things go south)

We left and enjoyed a beautiful experience at the music center. Got home by 1130 and by 430am almost my whole family was sick to their stomach. ( I will let you figure out what that means)
I didn't feel well at the moment but was not as bad as the rest. I was in the same condition by 830am. The next 24 hours were something I have never experienced.

I called the restaurant the next afternoon to speak with the manager. He or she was not available so I left a message and phone number with the person who answered the phone. No call back. On Tuesday I called again to get a generic answering machine. I again left a message and number. Guess what? No call back.
The only family member that didn't get sick was my middle daughter. She is also the only one that didn't try anything fried. I work in emergency care and know food poisoning when I see it.

The fact that this business didn't have the professionalism to make a single phone call on the matter shows a lack of concern that is unfounded in this industry. If I could give them no stars for that alone I would have. Unfortunately I will not be back to a place I once spoke so highly of.

First time diner at this establishment. While the decor and ambience was lovely, the food was lacking. I ordered the southern style fried chicken, but it tasted more liked baked chicken as it lacked... the real crunch of a true southern fried chicken. It was also way too salty (the mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach) that I couldn't finish it. Ordered the cheesecake for dessert. Tasty, good portion size and great flavor. See More

Last Saturday afternoon: Server tells us they have Coke, Diet Coke, and iced tea. We order iced tea and the server says they're out of iced tea? Huh? You just said you had it, and how do you run o...ut of iced tea? We order and server asks what kind of bread? We say wheat and she says they're out of wheat bread. We notice that there's a wheat bun and ask for the sandwich on that but the server says they're out of wheat buns also. What's going on? When two hamburgers ordered medium come to the table rare and messy, that's the icing on the cake. No effort by management to offer a free dessert or anything. Eat here at your own risk, and bring your own iced tea and wheat bread. See More

Service was sharp food was great - very tasty - it is rated highly as a kids place but felt more of a after work crowd - maybe our timing ha where off

My nephew graduated from UCLA paramedics program, and his mom reserved downtown Los Angeles Engine 28 for the celebration. My family and I loved the ambiance, history of Engine 28, and thoroughly enjo...yed their fire engine themed drinks and dinner. I had the best barbecue special while others had rib eye steak and hamburgers. I also am glad there was valet parking because it is difficult to find parking in L.A. See More

Ugh. Wrong wine served. Entree fired after initial server check on apps, delivered 5 mins later. I covered my entree with charger which bussed promptly offered to remove. Couldn't answer "How is it?" ...as hadn't tasted it yet. When server(new guy) asked for 2nd round, had to explain [limited] wine list to him. He brought correct wine, after 10 MIBs, WARM. Oh and my St. Francis zin was also served in a flute. See More
