As a kid, the Capitol Theatre held many dreams for me. Like so many, as I sat in that dark theater, I imagined myself on that screen or on that stage. I left Gr...eeneville and have had a satisfying life indulging in both of those worlds. And now the Greeneville Theatre Guild is bringing those dreams full circle.
“The Book of Mamaw” is the tale of me and the grandmother who raised me - a humorous look at our time together seen through the prism of the 50s, 60s and 70s in Greeneville, Tennessee.
This performance is to benefit the Guild as they develop Theatre Depot, a home for actors, writers, storytellers, musicians, designers...a place to create. As the world automates, stories are what we have to nurture our humanity.
So happy to bring this show home. It’s where it belongs. And to support the folks who keep the stories going.
I can still recall the smell of our house when the Avon shipment arrived.
Man, what a great time I had at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum last night! Thanks to Martin Dotterweich and the Arts Alliance Mountain Empire! And to all the folks who came out to feed the soul!
