So many years later, Mr. Edney is still defending Omar's rights and trying to hold the government accountable for such a travesty. Please listen to the programme and see details below about how you can help. Write the Minister of Justice and demand justice. http://www.cbc.ca/listen/shows/ideas/segmlent/11553886
A delegation of Free Omar supporters visited Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould's constituency office in Vancouver on Friday. We requested a meeting to discuss Canada's overdue obligation to provide justice to Omar Khadr and to remind her that- In 2015, Lawyer’s Rights Watch Canada and the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group reviewed Canada’s performance regarding its obligations under the Convention against⋯⋯ Torture and stated that Canada had contravened every aspect of its duties in this case, and its failure to prevent, investigate and punish the torture and ill treatment of Omar Khadr, constitutes a continuing violation of his rights. If you live in the Vancouver area and have an opportunity to visit the Justice Minister's office (1245 W. Broadway) please drop in or phone 604-717-1140. Urge her to take action asap! If you can't drop by her office, please see below for the details of our letter writing campaign. The Justice Minister needs to hear from you!
更多THANK YOU! IN THE PAST WEEK SO MANY HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO WRITE THE JUSTICE MINISTER URGING HER TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON OUR OBLIGATION TO COMPENSATE OMAR FOR CANADA'S SHOCKING VIOLATION OF HIS RIGHTS! IT'S DIFFICULT TO KNOW HOW MANY HAVE CONTACTED MINISTER WILSON-RAYBOULD, BUT IF SHE HASN'T HEARD FROM YOU YET, PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO SUPPORT JUSTICE FOR OMAR. 2,046 have viewed the page-hope all will take action!
We need your help.
Free Omar is focusing for the next two weeks on our goal – to get 1000 messages to the Justice Minister, Jody Wilson-Raybould – to remind her on her responsibility. (Please read attachment)
Let's overwhelm her with mail!!
⋯⋯ 更多A special request to all Free Omar supporters!!!!
Shortly after the 2015 federal election when Vancouver M.P. Jody Wilson-Raybould was appointed as Minister for Justice, she received a mandate letter from Prime Minister Trudeau outlining her responsibilities as Justice Minister and Attorney General.
"...You are expected to ensure our legislation meets the highest standards of equity, fairness and respect for the rule of law...that the rights of Canadians are protected, that ⋯⋯our work demonstrates the greatest possible commitment to respecting the Charter of Rights and Freedoms..."
Considering that mandate, we call on Minister Wilson-Raybould to fulfill Canada's obligation to apologize and provide remedy to Omar-it is long overdue! Please take a minute to write, phone or fax and remind the minister that since we cannot erase the shocking failure of successive governments, since 2002, to provide justice to Omar, she has an urgent obligation to provide compensation for his abuse and the violation of his rights. Please contact Minister Wilson-Raybould-we expect her to take action immediately!
Please see the Minister's contact info and a sample letter below

8 November: UNFINISHED BUSINESS - Demonstration to Mark U.S. Presidential Elections.
The London Guantánamo Campaign and FREE Omar Khadr NOW invite you to join us for the demonstration: UNFINISHED BUSINESS on the evening of the US presidential election.
- Tuesday 8 November 2016
- At 6-8pm⋯⋯
- Outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London UK
When elected in 2008, Obama pledged to close Guantánamo, but Guantánamo remains business as usual. Prisoner releases slowed to a trickle, kangaroo 'justice' persists with indefinite detention without trial for many who remain. Force feeding, beatings and brutality continue. In the presidential campaign neither of the two main candidates has addressed this issue. Guantanamo’s closure is not imminent…
The Free Omar Khadr Committee's comment on the New York Times article has been published today on our website.
Read it here: https://freeomar.ca/2016/10/18/new-york-times-on-omar-khadr/
While it is very good that the NY Times is shining light on the horrors of Guantanamo, this article contains inaccurate information about Omar. The authors should be taken to task for referring to him as "onetime Qaeda child soldier" and stating that his father was an al Qaeda member. The Canadian and American governments *created that myth* in order to demonize the entire Khadr family and legitimize Omar's illegal detainment in Guantanamo. Unfortunately journalists on both s⋯⋯ides of the border have continually perpetuated the Khadr/al Qaeda link. Furthermore, the article states that Omar "pleaded guilty" to "war crimes" which leads readers to believe that the Guantanamo military tribunal was a legitimate process carried out in a properly constituted court-which it most certainly was not! In fact Omar's sentence is itself a gave breach (i.e. a crime) of the Geneva Conventions and a crime in Canada. http://www.nytimes.com/…/w…/cia-torture-guantanamo-bay.html…

Recipe for a wrongful conviction: The extradition of an innocent man – Hassan Diab
Hassan Diab is a Canadian citizen and Carleton University professor who lived in Ottawa. He was extradited to France on November 14, 2014, in connection with the 1980 Rue Copernic bombing in Paris.
The Canadian extradition judge described the evidence that the French authorities submitted as “very problematic” and “suspect”, and stated that “the prospects of conviction in the context of a fair trial seem unlikely”. However, the judge said that he felt obliged under Canada’s extradition law to commit Hassan to extradition.
Hassan has strongly condemned the attack and steadfastly maintained his innocence. He has been in prison near Paris for almost two years.
Mr. Don Bayne, Hassan’s lawyer in Canada, has stated: “We now have the classic recipe for the wrongful conviction of a Canadian citizen”.

MEDIA RELEASE: London Guantánamo Campaign Comment on Barack Obama’s Plan to Close Guantánamo: “Politically expedient, but no viable means to close Guantánamo”
For immediate release: Tuesday, 23 February 2016
The administration of US President Barack Obama has today presented to Congress its long-awaited plan for the closure of the Guantánamo Bay detention facility by the end of his term in office in January 2017. The 4-point plan involves the release of cleared prisoners, an acceleration of periodic reviews, the reform of military commissions and the transfer of some prisoners to facilities on the US mainland.
Aisha Maniar, organiser of the London Guantánamo Campaign [1], says: “Without ending arbitrary indefinite detention, there is no end to the “misguided experiment” [2] that is Guantánamo Bay. Instead, Barack Obama has offered Congress a politically expedient plan that will help to protect his historic legacy as a president who tried. Coming at a key point in this year’s presidential campaign, and anticipating “a fair amount of opposition in Congress”, the plan offers politicians on both sides a talking point to appear tough on terrorism and national security issues, while eschewing real threats. The plan offers no viable solution to ending what Guantánamo represents, any more than it offers either freedom or justice for remaining prisoners.
“Barack Obama’s administration has recently taken positive measures by bringing the prisoner population below 100 for the first time since 2002, and accelerating periodic reviews for prisoners who cannot be released or tried. The fact that almost all of those who have had their status reviewed have been cleared for release raises further fears for the future of those prisoners who are unlikely to be released by this summer, but whose innocent or guilt has never been ascertained in over 14 years of detention.
“The losers in this plan are the very men whose future it determines: there never was a viable plan to release ‘forever’ prisoners, such as best-selling author Mohamedou Ould Slahi [3]. This plan demonstrates what the Guantánamo prisoners have always been: not dangerous men, but the ultimate pawns in the power games of others.”
