Congratulations to Lynn Dominguez who was Named Instructor of the Month in PADDLE magazine. (Check out Page 12)

ACA: Could you tell us about your interest in freestyle canoeing?

Lynn: "I had been a Canoe Touring Instructor at Level 2 since 1995 but I didn’t really start Freestyle Canoe until 2006. Now I’m in my solo canoe practicing anytime I can get on the water – usually 2 or 3 times a week. At first I enjoyed Freestyle because it gave me a significant boost in control over my canoe. All of my strokes became more precise and I had much better ‘feel’ for the paddle and canoe’s connection to the water. Learning the Freestyle maneuvers helped my skill development as a paddler in general and specifically as a Canoe Instructor."

Prior to the Pine Barrens Functional Freestyle Workshop several of us spent almost a week, camping, scouting, making last minute arrangements, paddling and generally having fun in the NJ Pine Barrens.

These photos were from our "on river" class on the Batsto River. This class traveled upstream from Quaker Bridge to Lower Forge and back. We worked of river re...ading skills and how to use our FS techniques to advantage in a challenging, real world situation. I wish I had taken more pictures, but it's tough doing so while teaching.
