Self-defense? I think this would be called "stand your ground" or castle doctrine, except, of course, that it's a black woman (lesbian?) doing the standing. http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/…/police-investigate-fatal…/

I've decided to use the women's restroom and follow this absurd law. I am choosing to do this and put myself at risk because I am at risk either way.
I'd rathe...r not take this risk, but it is being forced upon me, so this is my best effort to find the payout.
If someone confronts me in the women's room about being there, I will silently hand them this card with kind eyes: a micro-moment of possible change.
That's it. That's all I got left.

After a surprisingly almost 10k shares, I feel the need to make the following points:
My card could have been better by adding that I am following the law because my birth certificate says female. I recognize that not everyone knows what it means to be a 'transgender man', and I could have made that more clear.
Transgender people are diverse. Some of us transition physically, some of us don't. Some of us are more feminine or more masculine with no correlation to what gender we are. Some of us identify as non-binary/gender nonconforming, and I realize these might be a new terms for folks. Look it up. Educate. I am a transgender male and non-binary, and yes, that is possible. smile emoticon
Some transgender people are more at risk for violence/harassment because of this law than others due to how they are seen in public. My choice to do this has everything to do with acknowledging my white and (sometimes) male cis-passing privilege. No, I am not always seen as male.
When I started feeling male privilege during my transition, I vowed to myself that I would use that privilege to bring awareness to things that might not be popular to say; anything else would be a betrayal of myself and my equity / feminist values.
If we fight with love and compassion, people will listen.

This is the third time today I've seen the term "Regressive Left." I would add Transfeminist Activists who bullied LAMBDA Literary to withdraw Alice Dreger's best author nomination and who call parents "transphobic" for referring to their newborn as a "baby girl."
