Please sign and share this...how ridiculous to make it illegal to grow healthy food for your family in your own yard!
Nathan and Brittany Athans of Sugar Creek, MO are facing fines and legal proceedings for growing a vegetable garden in their front yard. A new ordinance which ...takes effect today prohibits food gardening within 30 feet of the street which in their case is their whole front lawn. Nathan and Brittany work and study full-time and have 2 small children with a third on the way in June. Let's help them and send a message to Sugar Creek officials that food gardens are part of the solution, not the problem. Thanks for taking one of the steps below!

subject: Allow Front Yard Vegetable Gardens in Sugar Creek
Dear Mayor Mallinson,
I am writing in support of Nathan and Brittany Athans (11214 Gill Street) and other Sugar Creek residents wishing to grow some of their own healthy, environmentally responsible food in their own front yards.
Missouri's food insecurity and obesity levels are above the national average. Front yard food production isn't the problem: it's part of the solution to healthier, more sustainable communities and I respectfully request that you revise your city code to allow for this.
As mayor, you have an opportunity to put Sugar Creek, MO on the map in either a positive or negative way. Gardeners from across the country and around the world are tuning into this case and are counting on you to do the right thing.
Sincerely,
(your name)
(your town), (your state)
