My daughter and I were enjoying our coffee and we're even happy to see they were using paper straws when all of a sudden the most derogatory music, worse than cussing blasted throughout the room. Ther...e were two young men sitting at the bar, beaming with delight. I couldn't get out fast enough. The young woman working there asked what was wrong, and laughed when I told her. Perhaps it was a random play, but as raunchy and loud as that was, they need to prevent it. I'm never going back. See More

Great service and delicious coffee! The shop was very inviting with a unique layout and design. Definitely a go to stop after if in Lihue.

Highly recommend the pour over! The açaí bowl here sets the bar very high for all other açaí bowls!

One of the best açaí bowls I’ve ever had. My husband tried them for the first time and he is also hooked! Great customer service as well!

Great coffee. Been here twice in two years (not a local client obviously...) And always been treated promptly and served a delicious cup of coffee. Highly recommended.

On Rice Street in Lihue, Ha coffee bar serves the best coffee I’ve had so far on the island (update: Little Fish Coffee in Hanapepe comes very close). This place is not trying to impress you; the spar...se selection of merchandise shelved alongside kids’ toys and story books, the funky furniture, the single Mason jar full of white sugar all appear to be saying, “I don’t care what you think – this is not Java Kai or Starbucks.” It’s not hipster either. Okay, it might be a little hipster if there were more hipsters in Lihue. Incidentally, I love the furniture – two large, beautiful wooden tables in the center and individual tables with very comfy island-style chairs around the periphery. Anyhoo, I had a pour-over Bali Blue Moon coffee, a Greek focaccia roll, and the maple mac nut cinnamon roll for $14 (the coffee was $3.50). The coffee is roasted at the Kauai Roastery, not to be mixed up with the Kauai Coffee Company (it was actually started by a former employee of the latter place… still with me?). The coffee was great: not overly roasted and nicely brewed (they have three methods for brewing, including Clover – I went with the “Clever” for a bolder cup). Next I had a pour-over of Ka’u, from the Big Island ($5), also roasted by the Kauai Roastery, also excellent. Food: I was a little skeptical about the Greek roll at first – it looked a bit dry – but the ingredients (olives, capers, peppers, spinach, and goat cheese) were amazing. The maple mac nut roll was great too - both pastries are from the Heart Flame bakery. Overall, it’s a very relaxing place thanks to the spaciousness and good selection of music – a great place to work on your novel ;-). Free WiFi, limited to 30 mins ($1/hr after that), and plenty of electrical outlets and seating.

For social and environmental impact, I’m giving the Ha Coffee Bar 5/5 green stars. The Kauai Roastery works selectively with small farmers that practice sustainable agriculture. The Bali Blue Moon coffee was organically grown by a cooperative in Bali, and certified by the Rainforest Alliance. Coconut milk is available as a sustainable alternative to dairy (they also have soy, rice, and almond milks). Food and coffee is served in ceramic cups and plates and take out cups and lids are compostable. Reasonably-priced cups and travel mugs are offered for sale ($8 for a HA cold cup) – a nice option for travelers who didn’t bring one. They also have an agenda to reduce waste, not bothering with batch brews since a lot of it is dumped as it becomes stale. My Greek focaccia and mac-nut rolls came from the Heart Flame Bakery, a local bakery that specializes in organic, vegan and gluten-free items. Finally, the Ha Coffee Bar is a non-profit: Any profits left over after paying operational costs each month will benefit the community at large. According to the owner, Jeff, their goal is “to partner with community organizations.”

Great coffee bar in the heart of Lihue. Plenty of parking, easy to find and great customer service with lots of Aloha. Inviting seating along the windows with some great, well used books about Kauai... to read while you enjoy your coffee. Simple selection of logo shirts and some local cards and gifts that are great souvenirs. Coffee was delicious and served with only milk and real sugar, no fake stuff in the place. See More

Loved the Samoa & Bee Sting! We made it our first stop after watching the sunrise and in the week we visited we ended up getting coffee here almost every morning. Service was fantastic and the staff ...was extremely helpful with tips about the coffee and the island. See More

Awesome cafe to spend some time before our flight. The guy working was great and shared his knowledge about what they offer with us. I tried kombucha for the first time and it was amazing! We relaxed ...here while it was super quiet. The music was great too! See More
