I joined Project 691 back when it was still known as Hartburn in my sophomore year of high school at AOC, just because I figured it'd be a cool place to learn s...ome technical and leadership skills. I thought I'd get in, learn whatever I wanted, and get back out. However, it ended up being so much more than that--and it all started because I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, and no one else appeared to either.

We're a student-led, mentor-guided team. That's what we've prided ourselves on for essentially all of our existence, and we do a great job at it. But when I got into Robotics, it was pretty chaotic--especially since we were still looking for a permanent build area. After a season of what seemed like utter chaos, I kinda figured I'd jump right in and join the executive board so I could do something about it.

I got the position of Treasurer in my second year, did those duties, and began to lead projects in nearly each of the subteams (Business, CAD, Executive, and Spirit were my mains, Mechanical was my secondary). This year, I was elected as Vice President of Business & Marketing, did all those duties, took on a systems engineering role for CAD/Mechanical during build season, revived our social media accounts, took on all kinds of executive and grunt work, and continued work in Spirit, designing the shirt and logos.

As a result, I've learned a TON about working with people, both creating and operating machines towards an end, and solving problems of both the technical and interpersonal kind during my time here. Not only that, but I've made friends I didn't expect I'd ever become acquainted with whom I'll remember for the rest of my life. Plus, the shenanigans are so, so real. Though being a part of Project 691 was oftentimes stressful, we'd always come out on top laughing together as a team, as a family at the end. I've been sucked in, I don't quite think I'll ever be able to get out, and I'm sorta fine with that.

I honestly would not be who I am today without the experience I had with my robohomies.

TL;DR: I loved my time on this team. And for anyone looking to join 691--you'll get out of the team whatever you put in, and it'll come back magnified. Exponentially. I'm not saying it'll be easy. But I promise that if you try hard enough, joining 691 is a decision you'll never regret.

P.S. Why is this review so long? Because this team deserves it. :) Thanks for my high school years.
