And you thought your in-laws were your only unwanted guests? 😩

Termites can literally eat you out of house and home, as evidenced by a shocking video released by the National Pest Management Association.

Eight Construction Trends of 2018
5️⃣: AR/VR, wearables and drones transforming jobsites. These budding technologies bring safety and efficiency - both areas where the construction industry tends to struggle.
-
It’s also possible that implementing these technologies will help recruit younger workers into an industry plagued by a labor shortage. Many programs also gamify safety training courses, which can improve learners’ engagement and retention rates.
-...
Companies such as @holobuilder have web platforms designed by and made for construction professionals, serving as a tool for construction teams to capture and share 360 degree virtual job walks of sites and buildings.

Continuing with our Eight Construction Trends of 2018
4️⃣: Giant companies expanding spaces. Following last year’s addition of new high-tech facilities from companies like Google and Apple, momentum has built towards similar expansions for other “giants” including Amazon, Microsoft, and GE.
-
As more firms continue to grow and build out their facilities, so will the infrastructure to support their operations. Investments in data center construction has already taken off given... the unprecedented amounts of info in company’s servers.

Eight Construction Trends of 2018
3️⃣: Investment up for public transportation. Beyond traditional rail and bus systems, the country is exploring higher tech options, such as high-speed maglev trains and hyperloop systems, several tunnels of that have been okayed in Maryland and California.
-
According to @honolulu_rail_transit, once initial investments help build the Honolulu Rail, it will cost only half as much to operate and maintain than TheBus.

Eight Construction Trends of 2018
2️⃣: Technology and automation tackling jobs. With new technologies and innovations such as 3D printing, tele-operated humanoid robots working in pit mines, and automated design, there is a push to embrace these developments to see where they can take the industry in the future.
-
The autonomous robot “TyBot” was developed to tie rebar to form bridge decks. Under the supervision of one worker, it is estimated that the TyBot can halve labor ho...urs and reduce injuries workers incur while straddling rebar frames. This means reduced costs, safer working conditions, and better business.

Eight Construction Trends of 2018
1️⃣: Resiliency. With the onslaught of natural disasters, property owners have taken big financial hits and will likely heed the call of organizations like the U.S. Green Building Council (USBG) to adopt more resilient site and structure features.
-
Inspiration comes from buildings like the Transamerica Pyramid of San Francisco, which sits beside the San Andreas and Hayward faults. The Transamerica Pyramid withstood a 6.9 magnitude earthquake... in 1989, a feat which has been attributed to the building’s structural engineering and 52-ft-deep steel and concrete foundation designed to move with earthquakes.
