We had the greatest experience here. The staff at the shelter was just so caring and kind. The animals were well cared for and loved. I would recommend anyone visit this location if they wish to be... rescued by the puppy or kitty waiting for them. See More

I adopted three wonderful kittens from this shelter. They were great and worked with me on the adoption fees since I was adopting three. 5 Stars!

Not sure if Animal Control is associated with this shelter, but I called Brownsburg Police for two stray male dogs that were loose in my neighborhood. They got my information and told me they would co...ntact Hendricks County Animal Control. The woman that called me from Animal Control told me to take them to Danville to the shelter, "which closes in an hour" or to keep them all weekend and take them there when they open after the weekend. July 4th weekend? Really? She never once offered to come and get them. I'm sorry, but isn't that YOUR JOB to come and get them? Or to at least figure something out? And I certainly couldn't call her back, as the number was "restricted" when she called me. I'm still in my pajamas and it would take me 20 to 30 minutes to get to the Danville shelter (no clue where it even is). She said "they close at 1pm, so you have plenty of time to get there if you leave now." I certainly cannot keep them all weekend as my dog and those two were tearing up my tiny house. And they were covered in fleas, so I had to come up with something. I had no way to keep them in my unfenced back yard, and I certainly was not going to just dump them back out into the street to be someone else's problem. Or get hit by a car, for God's sake. Not happy with this county's response to 2 male strays. You guys really need to get your act together. She acted like she couldn't even be bothered with this issue. I'm sure your resources are stretched to the max, but when I care more about stray dogs than you do, we have a problem. See More

My husband and I adopted our dog Sarge from here almost 3 years ago. The adoption process was quick, and I tell my husband all the time we could not have picked a better dog! Thank you for taking care... of Sarge before we even knew how lucky our lives were going to be with him. You are all wonderful!! See More

I found a stray dog on Hendricks/Putnam county line. Called them in desperate need to find this dog a home.
The lady was rude acted inconvenienced by my call. Gave numbers to call all where not helpfu...l as well as one was for cats only. Stated I need to contact Putnam county. Putnam county stated I needed to contact Hendricks. Needless to say I'm doing their job frantically trying to find a home for this sweet dog. Which is for professionals with resources. That is paid to do so.
Wow more I think and try to find this dog home.

I think the place is absolutely awesome and the staff is so friendly. (which is why they got 4 stars from me) my only reservation and the one thing that upset me, was we adopted a dog from them, signe...d all the paperwork (or my husband did while I set out with our other dog and daughter ) we were told that we needed to take her to the vet to get heartworm, rabies tag, etc. No problem there. Once we got her home and settled in, we realized that she had been VERY RECENTLY spayed, we hadn't been told anything about her being spayed recently, just that she had been spayed. (kind of our bad for not noticing before we left i guess? But with it being that recent, we should have had some sort of instruction from the staff before we left, not all new owners are knowledgeable on that stuff) I assumed that maybe they were dissolvable stitches and they would go away on their own. I mean if they weren't, we would have been told right? After monitoring her stitches for about 2 weeks, I realized that they werent going away and and they started to appear red and irritated, so I looked at her paperwork. She had been spayed almost 2 weeks prior to us adopting her, and on the paperwork it said the stitches should have been removed 3 days prior to her even being adopted out. I ended up cutting out the stitches myself (thanks to vet tech classes a little while ago), and she did awesome. I'm just really disappointed with the lack of communication between staff and the adopters. If I hadn't had the knowledge that I did, it could have ended relatively badly for her incision :( I know things can get crazy when animals are being adopted so I know mistakes are made, but this was a pretty significant issue to just brush under the rug and not even communicate with adopters. Just make sure you ask all questions possible when adopting. See More

I adopted my kitten, Moose, from this shelter a bit over a year ago and she is a perfect little fur ball. I also adopted my pup, Kelsey, from this shelter almost 11 years ago. Such a great place and h...elpful staff! Highly recommended if you're searching for that last piece of your family! See More

My husband and I bought a dog and they told us that she had been fixed. A few weeks later, she had her period all over the house. They lied to us and made us over-pay $60 for an un-fixed dog. I will n...ever go to this place again. Go here if you want to be lied to and have your money stolen. See More

The NEW Hendricks County Animal Shelter, with LaDonna Hughes as the new Shelter Director, is now an amazing place to adopt a new animal, or to volunteer your time to help the furbabies! LaDonna has do...ne SO MUCH to improve things at the Shelter. And the staff is amazing as well! They are truly an "animals first" kind of place now! Great job to LaDonna and her amazing staff! While the facility seems to be in a great condition and I had nothing but positive feedback from others, I'd have to say I will not be giving a positive review. Angie who works here was very rude ove...r the phone. I am just trying to help a little stray cat that wondered up to my house and I was treated like a irresponsible, bad petowner. So sad! You see, I have rescued and currently have FOUR cats (safe to say I'm not above taking them in) HOWEVER, I also have FOUR kids, no room, and unfortunately my cats won't let him in the house! So, with all that said, my experience here was very sour!!! See More

The wonderful people at Hendricks County Animal Shelter were instrumental in finding my dog (gone for 12 days). Thanks to them and connecting me with a professional dog recovery person, Vaya is alive ...and well. Success story I am so happy to pass on. See More

So grateful for my sweet new kitten, Seamus. I love him to pieces and the ladies that I talked with were super helpful and friendly. They happily answered all my first time cat owner questions and had... some great advice for me to help make him as healthy and happy as I can. In hindsight, I wish I'd skipped Petfinder completely and just gone straight to them. They will definitely be my first stop for any future pets I may get and the first suggestion I give to any friends looking for pets. See More

They have really stepped things up and the new Chief is all about what's best for these fur family babies. Always consider the animals that have no forever home. This process couldn't have been more smooth.
