Great wine and easily the best tasting tour Ive ever done in Napa. George the owner is a scientist at heart (worked on particle accelerators and cyclotrons) as day job. He shows you the science behi...nd winemaking and why you taste what you do. Its a PHD class in wine and what you buy in bottles is taken off price. George is 81 and does the 20 am tours 7 days a week. See More

We enjoyed a comprehensive seminar and wine tasting with George. Educational on the process of wine production, we learned a great deal about different techniques in wine making. We also learned how t...o drink and enjoy wine properly. A must if you love wine. And of course, all wines we tried were truly delightful. We left the winery with 10 bottles. See More

I came here randomly years ago (2012) when I was living in Southern CA and had a conference is Napa. I knew NOTHING about wine and couldn’t tell the difference between anything other than “I like it” ...or “I don’t like it.” Fast forward 4 and a half years to Fall of 2016 and I end up moving to Napa! First place I took my visitors was Hendry winery. I never forgot how much fun I had there, and how great everyone on staff was.
Just introduced my second visitor today (who also loved it there) and finally joined their wine club! I learn more and more every time and I’ve gotten much better at the tasting thing!

Hendry Ranch Winery is one of the best places in Napa you can visit. Specifically if you're looking for information. Mr.G.Hendry has shared so much information with us about the Wine making business, ...Wine and Food. You can learn why wine can taste different with every sip and why your food can taste plain with every bite and how to fix these problems in both cases and much more! Schedule your appointment in advance and come to visit this great Winery! See More

There's no other working/teaching resource that can impart as much
Knowledge as the Hendry Winery's staff.

So glad I found this vineyard a few years ago. I've been back each time I've been in Napa, most recently for George's seminar/tour/tasting about a week ago. If you're at all interested in the science ...behind winemaking, this is far and away the best place to go. I learn something new each time I visit and have gained a much better appreciation for wine and the complex interactions between wine and food. It is extremely apparent that everyone associated with Hendry loves being a part of the vineyard. See More

Brilliant place to visit (visited twice) Not your normal vineyard tour and we were privileged to have Mr Hendry take us round.

We loved our experience at Hendry! It was our favorite winery in Napa. I wish we could've met George he sounds so interesting. I am not a Chardonnay drinker but I fell in love with the barrel fermente...d Chardonnay. Unfortunately the airline crushed my box of wine and the Chardonnay was broken See More

It was an amazing experience to spend 3 hours with Mr. George Hendry. It took us a few calls to make the appointment but well worth it. Thank you for making it wonderful, educational and fun experience.

Took my wife to a tasting while we were in town from Ohio (not a wine drinker myself) and we both loved it. The tasting was very educational and we ordered a few bottles to ship back to Ohio. Will com...e back and recommend to friends for sure! See More

The best winery tour in Napa. My wife and I had the pleasure of enjoying a very educational tour and tasting session given by Mr Hendry himself that lasted 3 hours. It started with the history of wine... making in Napa Valley and ended with a wonderful and very educational tasting session that included 7 different wines. See More

Easily the best, most in-depth stop on our Napa visit. George Hendry takes you on the most informative tour and tasting you'll ever experience. We tasted a whopping eleven wines, much more than your s...tandard tasting of four or five. It was very interactive, as Mr. Hendry was aware that taste is subjective and keen to ask us what we tasted. Most winery tastings would entail you standing at a counter, tasting a select few wines, and the sommelier telling you what you should be tasting. While other wineries in the area were certainly enjoyable, Hendry is a one-of-a-kind experience and a fantastic value. See More

The tour was awesome! Learned a lot and the wine was delicious!
Is it a steaming cauldron of lava? No, it's Luis pumping air through the grapes to keep the yeast process balanced. At this point he has to do this 3 times a day.
Harvest is here!!!! Yippee. First grapes picked are from Block 21 Chardonnay today! Grapes from this block go into the production of both the Barrel Fermented and Unoaked Chardonnay. Watch the first press load.
Here's a peek at the bottling process in action!

An interesting post by the smart folks at about wine faults (and other unusual aromatics) and how they can be recognized and described. These folks put out a lot of good, up-to-the-minute educational information and their blog and website are worth checking out!

If you're scientific minded and curious, you can learn to identify a great deal of aroma compounds (including "impact compounds") in wine. Next time you have a glass of wine in front of your nose, see if you can pick out one of these more bizarre flavors.

And a good time was had by all! Thanks for the repost, Anne Sgro!
