Today, April 25th is Anzac day first commenorated in 1916. 25th April 195 was the start of the Gallipoli campaign when many Anzac (Australia and New Zealand Army Corp) troops lost their lives. The day also remembers all those Australian and New Zealand troops who have served their countries.

Yesterday saw the unveiling of the statue of the Suffragist Millicent Fawcett opposite Parliament. Important in the struggle for women's suffrage, she is described as a Suffragist and believed in peaceful protest to achieve her aims. She founded the National Union of Women's Suffrage in 1897.

World War II - - Battle of Guadalcanal
In mid-November 1942, planes from Henderson attacked a convoy of ships bringing Japanese reinforcements to Guadalcanal. Of eleven transport ships, six were sunk, one was severely damaged and four had to be beached. Only 2,000 men ever reached Guadalcanal – but few had any equipment as this had been lost at sea.
