I mentioned the University of Guelph has invited me to give a presentation at a writers conference they are holding this coming Saturday? I am now beginning to put together my slide deck --I know, I know. I'm starting late.

Anyway, while cruising around Google Image Search for some illustrations I found a picture I've never seen before of one of my favourite historical fiction authors, James Clavell, reviewing one of his manuscripts. Now I'm really just looking for a decent headshot, which this is not. Still, I enjoy this way too much not to share it somewhere, so here it is:

Hello everyone,

Years ago my sister left one of my books on her couch, and her cats savaged the thing. She took a picture and sent it to me. With every new published novel since, she's given her copy to her cats and taken a picture. Several times I've received the image before I even have a physical copy of the book myself.

This year was a little different, and funnily enough, this is the book I dedicated to her.

...

Her cats refused to be in the same room together during her impromptu photoshoot. She must have interrupted some kind of feline disagreement, because they absolutely refused her cajoling to sit nicely on the couch and do something photogenic. In the end, she dropped them one by one into a crib where they couldn't run away quickly for the sake of at least keeping the tradition going.

Ah, well. Here are the pictures. Based on previous years, I expect this to be among my most popular posts. The internet loves cats. That's just science.

Cheers,

--Geoff
