Lake McConaughy is beautiful and we were spoiled to get there late Thursday afternoon and not see the crazy start until Friday night. By Saturday, I think half of the western part of the country was our campsite and the beach just below our campsite. The rude and ill mannered, NON PAYING campers on the beach were unapologetically walking through the middle of our campsite, hogging all of the bathrooms and showers, making the beautiful beach into a parking lot and just generally being a-holes. I would give Lake Mac another shot during the week or maybe a non holiday weekend, but if it's like how it was this weekend, I don't know if I'll ever go back. Terrible. See More

Love the place! But Hard to find decent fishing spots unless you have the luxury of owning a boat due to people camping every where, access roads to all the different spit need maintenance, pathways ...and open area to beached areas when lake water down is almost dangerous or non exsistant, i drive to far to enjoy good fishing and relaxation and feel like I have no options. Mesa view hotel helps with the relaxation. Since can never find camping spot we now stay there but I go for the lake might now be for awhile. See More

I love Lake Mac! It's definitely a favorite vacation spot for my family. I enjoy going midweek and in September when the beaches are emptier and there's more room on the water. Tent camping is really on the beach, but a camper would make it easier in case of poor weather. See More

GREAT LAKE too bad the development plan is going to close a lot of beach to camping miles of beach not useable for campers see the map LAKE McConaughy/LAKE Ogallala Master Plan see how many miles of b...each not useable for campers I had 4 generations at the lake this year kids and grandkids grew up on the LAKE the greatgrandchild will have to go somewhere else??????? How did a plan get approved that removes the lake from our use how will the area replace the millions in lost revenue if there's less beach not useable where do I go? See More

The lake is awesome! People are rude, setting off LOUD noise makers that vibrate all surroundings (sound like an explosion). The last one just went off about 12:45am. But he lake is awesome, plenty of... places to camp for primitive use right on the sand/beach area. The views are great and plenty of traveling to do both by car and boat! See More

Lake McConaughy is just beautiful but.....there is too many people on week-ends during the summer and some just don't take care of our know who you are. There needs to be a few more rule...s & regulations for the boaters !!! and there needs to be a few more Parks & Rec Patrol around the Lake. Just my opinion See More

They better never take it away where you can just camp on the beach with a fire. It's just the perfect thing. Come every year. Will always come if they leave it the way it is.

An amazing treasure in the middle of Nebraska! The beaches are amazing and the highlight of our family reunion was the bonfire on the beach!

We went in Memorial Day Weekend with no reservation. Found our spot and didn't see a lot of other people. In passing yes, but not to the point were we felt like we were sharing the beach. Best camping... trip so far!!! See More

Big Mac is an absolute gem. 22 miles long, warm water surrounded by soft, white sand beaches. You can camp on the beach. You can have a fire on the beach. You can drive on the beach (you'll need a 4x4...). Great fishing and boating also. Alcohol is not allowed, however, what's in your Nalgene bottle is your business. See More

Finding camping is getting more difficult and we are seeing what appears to be people taking up permanent residence during the summer. We have gone out Wednesday evening to not find any available cam...p sites, come back a week later to find many of the same campers still there and on our third trip give up. We have tried reserving sites and have had a problem where someone took our site and both the campground host and Ne Game and Parks let them stay and forced us to find a new spot even though we had paid for the site and had receipt to prove it. Of the trips we have managed to find a site we have noticed a consistent problem with people using the water hydrant as a permanent water hookup for their camper (some two or three sites away). Rather than taking the money generated by Lake Mac and sending it to Lincoln and Omaha I would love to see more improved campgrounds at lake Mac, more full hookup sites and Ne Game and Parks taking a more active role managing again. I was quite stunned when we called the visitors center (operated by Ne Game and Parks) and they said they don't manage camping at Lake Mac. See More

It's okay only coz the swimming area have so many junk. We go every year and the sands are so white but no more. That makes me sad. People have no consideration at all.

I have visited this lake for many years, and have finally moved here and love it. The one thing I do hate is visitors not cleaning up after themselves. It is such a beautiful Lake to visit and now to, with all the great fishing and wildlife. See More

Beautiful, will be back. The cotton wood trees pooping cotton the whole time is kind of annoying but still not bad.

There will be a large amount of smoke and fire on the east side of Kingsley Dam this morning. Central is burning 3 very large slash piles and they will continue to burn through the night.
