We come to visit family every year from NYC and never miss a visit to Lathrop. The Junior Ranger program is wonderful, Tom Macedo is a great educator who cares about the land, and helping people of al...l ages appreciate it's beauty and mystery. See More

My wife and I stay here at least two-three times a year and are never disappointed. We started when our kids were still living at home. Now we had the opportunity to bring our grandson and he caught h...is first fish at Horseshoe Lake. It won't be his last. We love it here and the drive through La Veta just adds to the gorgeous surrounding areas. The rangers and office staff are always pleasant and never hesitant to answer questions. If I could find one thing wrong it would be the limited areas for shore fishing in spring and early summer. The vegetation is so think fishing from shore is very limited making it hard to find an open spot. If you have never been here, give it a try, you will be back. See More

We have been to the park a few different times. Our last visit in May of this year was by far the worst. My husband and daughter went to fish while I enjoyed my book lakeside. Along the path, several ...other people were there fishing as well. They had at least 2 dogs with them but they were not on a leash. We don't have an issue with dogs. I had mine there with me but he is always kept leashed. Their dogs came towards my dog in a threatening manner. The owner didn't say anything to them. Instead I had to stand between the two. As my husband and daughter were walking back one of the dogs went towards them in the same manner. My husband put his arm up in defense. We went up to the park office to tell the park Rangers. They questioned my husband's actions instead of taking care of the problem. Due to this we will not visit this park again. The park itself is nice but the rules should be enforced. See More

I loved walking around Martin lake, although the walking trail could use alot of work, as the asphalt is either very uneven , or broken up. Also, alot of the dead trees and vegetation need to be clear...ed up & cut back, to improve fishing access on both lakes. It would be nice to see some metal piers that extend out to the lake, from the shoreline, that people could fish off of, & making them
Handicapped accessible also. The outdoor restrooms could be cleaner. Other than that, the wildlife & scenery , in & of themselves are "Beautiful"! I loved seeing the occasional Osprey , swoop down from the sky , go into Martin Lake , catch a fish & then fly off with it in its' talons , taking it up to its nest. Or seeing deer, rabbits, snakes, Etc. Oh, and you can't leave out the Beautiful Sunrises & Sunsets that captured the moment during my many fishing trips there, along with seeing the Huajatollas, Or Spanish Peaks, as some people call them, In the background from the lakes, especially during the summer & winter months. All in all, it was a Great experience! Loved fishing both lakes.

Great stay ... Colorado annual state parks pass makes the stay at this and other state parks well worth the money. Hogback Trail (about 2.5 miles total with only ~200' elevation gain) has some great v...iews of the lakes and Spanish Peaks (and the mtn range to the SW and NW). Brought the golf clubs this trip ($10 to walk the course, $10 more for a cart ... Sat is BOGO greens fees if camping on site), and will bring the kayak next trip! Bathrooms (coin showers $0.50) well kept. Sites paved and level enough with a few blocks. See More

I don't take advantage of the slice of heaven enough. An amazing back yard opportunity. The walking path provides 2.9 miles of safe exercise, the swim area is fabulous when the water is warm and the f...acilities are always being updated and improved to make the visit more enjoyable. I love Lathrop State Park. See More

I enjoy this hidden paradise and there is an abundant source of wildlife to be experienced. That being said, it seems Summer attracts the most rude, inconsiderate, and trashy visitor. It may be time t...o invest in extra summer park help to pick up after the savages. We picked up 1 garbage bag full of trash today on West beach. Trash was every where and in the lake as well and the trash cans were running over. See More

My husband and I took our two children and there three friends to the fishing clinic today. Boy oh boy they had the time of their life. Four out of five learned how to cast their poles. We would like ...to thank you all so much for doing this program for our community. We especially would like to thank you for thread NEW fishing poles you gave them. They felt so special and proud. So thank you for a great special day. See More

The park is a jewel! The camping facilities are quite nice. The adjacent Walsenburg Golf Club is a very nice public course. The restaurant there has really good food. But the beauty is the view of th...e Spanish Peaks and Sangre De Christo mountain range. Stunningly rustic and beautiful. See More

Well, I LOVED IT!! We only stayed for one night, but it was quiet and just beautiful surroundings. In 37' motorhome with tow, so some of the turns were tight and we had to be careful which site to c...hoose for ease in getting in and out. Other than that, I would recommend it. See More
