Los Alamitos is my preferred race track of choice because it is the one that is closest to my house. The Long Beach Bar Foundation has had a couple of functions... at the Finish Line Room and they have been pleased by the cozy ambiance and small town feel of the track. Good satellite betting option even on non-race days. With the expansion of the track, California Chrome has become the first great horse to have called this venue home, alongside many top quarter horses, jockeys, owners and trainers.

In the future, I would like this venue to have longer thoroughbred meets and also allow for a turf track as a result of the track expansion. While it may be a costly remodeling, I imagine Los Al to be a track for throughbreds and quarter horses with long meets for both types. As it stands so far, it's a great venue and one that I highly recommend for events or handicapping.

I have been going to Los Alamitos since I was born. This was a my playground as a kid and love everything about it. Lots of great memories of running with the horses with all the kids. Seen some great horse over the years and lots of memories for life.

I love spending the day here, more so than Santa Anita. I do not like the owner of Santa Anita at all. Wish they had more day racing, and earlier night races. Duff is one of the best trainers there.

Just attending a party at Vessels. Great party room. The banquet food is so-so, although I don't know the budget of the host organization. Good bar.

Tell the starter for quarter horses, that about half the time he kicks the gates before the last horse loading gets a chance to even know he is in the gate yet. It happens too often.

Wonderful job Los Al! For the heart it is a lifting of the spirit after the demise of our beloved Hollywood Park. And the anticipation is electric - people as away as Del Mar coming out today, local 2 news crew truck parked outside the gates, the parking lot fills with eager smiling happy race fans, embarking on a new era that dawns for Thoroughbred racing in Southern California - all expecting a glorious day of racing. For me, a new home track! Only an 8 minute drive down the freeway - ahhh heaven! The excitement in the air, the anticipation! Even for the employees. They swell with pride, friendly, happy, smiling - beaming - as we chit-chat and I complement them on their efforts to beautify the newly expanded paddock-walking ring with beautiful flower boxes filled with bright blooms. It is nice to see some former employees of Hollywood Park on the job for their first day, beaming and happy. Ahh, beautiful sun glistening windows sparkle as a friendly employee puts on the finishing touches to his last window. (Never met a 'grumpy' employee there yet!) The main track looking beautifully groomed and welcoming, ready. The gorgeous infield pops with inviting bursts of color and the anticipation one feels as it buildups towards "And they're off!". The buzz I hear, the anticipation! The sights, the sounds, the smell of the track - and beauty of the majestic horses!! Yes a very happy place. A superb job done to the highest degree of excellence Los Al - to be sure a few areas still need some work, but all in due time. For now, I anticipate a roar from the crowd as the thunder of hooves charge around the track on their way home (one is so close to the action, right on top of the track as they fly by! Ohh myy!) and a much anticipated opening day at Los Alamitos Race track! And there they gooo!! Ahhh yes, my happy place now too. See More

I have lived in los Alamitos pretty much my whole life and the race track is all ways a popular place to hang out make bets and watch the hores race drink and while having the time of your life. I went to las vegas when I was 22 and a bar tender saw my license and said los Alamitos they have a great track and me be stunned that he new about the race track was amazed then he said he had been there recently and loved it. From that point on thats where I have been going. Keep up the good times and make new ones there See More

I'm glad I ran across this FB page. It brought back a lot of memories. My father, L.G. "Lucky" Littell used to race Quarter Horses in the late '50s and early '6...0s here. I remember names like Charlie Smith, Jimmy Dreyer, Ronnie Banks, Youel Watson and others as friends of my dad. Los Alamitos was my playground and I spent many a day there. Unfortunately my dad passed away in '66 when I was 10 years old. When I became an adult I would visit the track often. I haven't been for decades but I am looking forward to visiting real soon.... Remembering Anna MacPherson and Moonist - two Los Alamitos greats

Funeral services for Anna Jimenez-Macpherson will be held at Green Hills Mortuary at 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275, ph#877-981-7755.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, June 27th at noon, burial will follow thereafter. Anna requested that attendees to her funeral services wear white clothing.

Moonist's owner Ron Hartley: "I'd like to thank everyone for the love and appreciation they've shown for Moonist. It's been overwhelming. Moonist was a member of our family and loved by so many in the racing family as well. There'll never be another one like him for me. Bonnie Vessels, who bred Moonist, was one of the first to call this morning. We've heard from so many from all over the country. We would go to the track and people would always asked us about him. After his races, we'd have so many people coming by to tell us how much they loved Moonist. I'll remember the sight of Moonist walking towards us in the winner's circle. He was amazing."

RIP Moonist. A few photos of the great Moonist. "It'll be hard to look at his stall without him," said trainer John Cooper. "We'll remember the good times and he gave us many."

We are sad to report the news that Quarter Horse owner Anna MacPherson, wife of longtime owner and PCQHRA board member Rod MacPherson, passed away on Monday night after courageously battling an illness. Her owner, AJS Anna Smoke, was one of the 10 finalists to the $1.1 milion Ed Burke Million Futurity on Sunday.
