Over 120+ bikers attended the annual biker mass in Burt chapel organised and celebrated by Fr Gerry Sweeney, they then rode to our station at Ned's point for light refreshments and to donate €1500. Lough Swilly would like to thank Fr Gerry Sweeney who has made this an annual event and to everyone who attended and donated.

With four metre seas and howling winds the Lough Swilly volunteers endured seas that saw them rise and fall in darkness on a recent call.

A 50ft fishing vessel ...had put in a call for assistance after losing power and despite dropping an anchor was still drifting into danger. The volunteers successfully worked as a team in challenging conditions to get a tow attached and then endured a three hour tow to a point of safety.

On this day 36 years ago, six days before Christmas, the Solomon Browne launched from Penlee Lifeboat Station against hurricane winds to rescue the crew of the ...1,400 ton coaster Union Star. Tragically, the eight lifeboat volunteers and the eight people on the Union Star all lost their lives. Gone but never forgotten, today we honour those that gave their lives to save others http://rnli.info/6EWnXt
