Dr. Gregoire Courtine's latest research he's sharing is amazing - he's been able to identify the location in the brain when new neurons reconnect during activity-based training.

With the help of robot-assisted rehabilitation and electrochemical spinal cord stimulation, rats with clinically relevant spinal cord injuries regained control of their otherwise paralyzed limbs. But how do brain commands for walking, swimming and stair-climbing bypass the injury and still reach the...

Stephen Hawking died on the same day Albert Einstein was born, which also happens to be the day we honor the mathematical constant Pi (3.14...). All just one giant coincidence?

RIP to one of the greatest minds to ever live.

Today is a sad day for the world of science and technology. Not only was Stephen Hawking one of the most renowned scientists, he played a great role in showing ...the world that physical disabilities can't stop your dreams and the great lengths technology can take you to.…/health/stephen-hawking-dead/index.html

Congress is about to vote on a bill that would strip away the civil rights of people with disabilities. H.R. 620, also known as the “ADA Notification” bill, is... expected to be voted on as early as Wednesday, February 14.
Today is National Disability Call-In Day and it's your time to tell your representatives to #SaveADA and vote #NoHR620
You can call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to your Representative. You can use our script to talk to the staffer you are connected with:

Hello, my name is [your name] and I live in Rep. [name] district. My address is [your address].

I am calling to urge Rep. [name] to vote no on H.R. 620.

As a person with a disability/a family member of a PWD/friend of a PWD, I rely on the ADA to ensure that I/my family member/my friend can do the same things that everyone else does--including visit [something you like to do in the community, like go to the movie theater or local restaurants]. H.R. 620 would reduce the civil rights of people with disabilities.

If Rep [name] wants to help business owners and prevent frivolous lawsuits, there are better ways to do it that won’t hurt people with disabilities.

Please tell Rep. [name] that this constituent wants him to vote no on H.R. 620.

NOTE: If the staffer asks you what other solutions there are, say that you urge them to contact the CCD Rights Task Force and to see this letter

Also, you can just call and say where you live and that you want Rep [name] to vote no on H.R. 620. That’s all you have to say! The vast majority of staffers won’t ask you any more questions and if they do, you don’t have to answer.

Great piece but hard to get over them cropping the models face out of the image. 😕 "The disability community is one of the only communities that anyone can join... at any point in their life, regardless of race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status and body. If you can’t care enough about the people already in the disability community to end ableist language, stop using it because you could someday be a member of our community—someone who is consistently told your life is a burden or inconvenience."…/…/a10205286/disability-lorde/

Did you know "Massage therapy can stimulate regeneration by maximizing the flow of nutrients to an area aiding in a return of sensation or function". All forms ...of therapy compliment one another so it is important to understand everyone needs a FORM of massage at some point in their life. As it goes for the spinal injured, "Some neurons travel from the lower spinal cord to the great toe. The overall growth rate of 1.5 mm per day is approximately 2 inches per month. Assuming that trauma of a client occurred in a peripheral nerve, but near the spinal cord, it could take over two years for the repair of damaged nerves as evidenced by the return of sensation and function of the great toe." We must keep the body healthy, internally, in order to facilitate recovery of function. "Assuming that regeneration is complete, the brain may send messages down the “wrong” motor neurons and therefore the actions of the person may be inappropriate. Similarly, sensory neurons growing through different neurolemmal tunnels will result in inaccurate perceptions in the brain. Physical therapy and other modalities may be required to retrain the brain so that the appropriate actions and perceptions will occur. Since blood is the body’s best healer, therapeutic massage can be of value to the client by maximizing the flow of nutrients into the areas of healing (regeneration)". We have an licensed massage therapist onsite! Schedule with your next visit.
