More than 20 mix-abled artists from across the country were brought together, highlighting what inclusion means to all... artists through an integrated dance performance, at the opening of the UnMute ArtsAbility Festival.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Shift”; aiming to look at shifting the perception of what performance is believed to look like and where they should be performed.
In addition to the on-stage performances, multi award-winning filmmaker, Shelley Barry’s new film, HERE, which premiered at the National Arts Festival this year (2019), forms part of the Unmute ArtsAbility Festival. HERE is a music and dance performance film by Shelley Barry and artists with disabilities from Johannesburg, celebrating their craft while reimagining their City as an inclusive and fantastical space. A unique film, using virtual reality, promises to give a new experience to theatre-goers with this immersive, interactive activity. HERE will be screened on Nov 30.
Don’t miss out on the ArtsAbility Festival, steering South Africa towards a vision of an inclusive South Africa, on until Dec 03.
