I was in the area recently. Since we don’t have much for Caribbean food in Denver, I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity. I went with two friends and a coworker, and we all loved it very much. Plu...s we got to meet Marla herself, which was the icing on the cake. One fair word of warning - read the spice levels on the menu carefully before deciding how hot you want you food. I ordered my goat roti ‘Marla’s Hot’, and she is NOT playing around. I got about halfway through it before my mouth, lips, and tongue went numb and I had to stop. I brought the rest home with me to Denver, and am working my way through it bit by bit. I know I shouldn’t, but it’s SO good at the same time. See More

I love Marla and I love the food she creates in this modestly sized south side staple. The doubles are ridiculously delicious, and it’s the only place I know of to get sorrel in the Twin Cities.

I g...otta say, though, that the service crawls most of the time. It often takes a very long time to put in an order, and even longer to get the order to the table. If you’re in a hurry, this isn’t the spot. If you’ve got time and good company, you’ll probably want to come back again and again. We do.

Also the spiciness of the food is no joke. Seriously.

Amazing food and excellent service. Marla came out to chat with us and our server was on top of things without hovering. The doubles with jerk chicken is my new favorite thing to eat. It was SO good. ...I also had the curry goat which was very tasty. See More

I love Marla’s! There’s too many menu items to list but I keep working my way through the menu. And I’ve learned that “medium” here is a perfect spice level for me! Marla’s heat isn’t for the weak of ...tongue. See More

I love Marla's!! As an islander, it's only place in the twin cities I can get authentic Caribbean food. Aside from the food, I love the vibe of the restaurant in general! Its like going to my family's... house... no pretentiousness or chain restaurant ambience, Just real food from real people in real time! See More

A friend of mine had Marla's cater her wedding. This was several years after the location had changed hands many times in a short period of time. No one in the neighborhood ever expected a restaurant stay at that location. Now nearly 10 yrs later Marla's is still there. More of a landmark now than the dive it used to be. I was part of the serving staff at my friend's wedding so we all ate last. All that was left was the beans and rice. Let me tell you it was worth the wait! Still the best beans and rice I've ever had. Glad they are still around for me to try the rest of their menu and congrats for appearing on my favorite food show! See More

Marla's is not like your traditional restaurant where the food sits around partially prepared and ready for microwaving. By the time the server gets it to your table it's ready to go back in the micro...wave!

Luckily and to our foodie pleasure, every dish that Marla prepares comes deliciously HOT straight off the stove-from fire to plate to your table. Steaming and hot with those wonderful aromas of Jerky, stew or curry! Believe me it's worth it!
