Mary Baldwin is getting ready to mark a major milestone — our quartoseptcentennial, the 175th anniversary of our founding in 1842 — and we want you to be a part of the celebration. We are planning a year of festivities throughout our academic year 2016–17, paying homage to the people who have made and continue to make Mary Baldwin great.
Please mark your calendars now and plan to join us in Staunton for these once-in-a-generation events:...
August 31, 2016: MBU Launch
The official kick-off of our 175th anniversary year will be a community-wide event on the date we officially become Mary Baldwin University. We will expand upon our traditional Charter Day ceremony to encompass the launch of our next chapter as an institution.
April 20-23, 2017: All-Alumni Homecoming
This special quartoseptcentennial homecoming will include alumnae and alumni from all classes and programs, not just those in reunion class years. And do plan to bring your family!
The culture of Mary Baldwin is life changing. Join us in celebrating this enduring legacy and the remarkable spirit that will continue to influence generations of learners and leaders for the 21st century.

Mary Baldwin College students and faculty have once again teamed up with MBC Artist-in-Residence Claudia Bernardi to create a mural during May Term. Building on... the success of a project at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center in Staunton in 2014, students in art history, film, and social work courses are brainstorming and painting alongside youths from the center to produce a narrative mural this week. The expansive piece is temporarily located in Hunt Dining Hall mezzanine — when finished, Bernardi will be able to transport it to various locations.
“After the initial rush of the first week, being so far from my family was difficult, for sure. My classmates, professors, and staff that I came in contact with... got me through. They are my family now, too,” says Aimee Barrenada. Growing up with just two years between them, sisters Aimee and Ivette Barrenada shared books, birthday parties, and even wore matching outfits. It didn’t surprise Aimee when her younger sister told her she was thinking about following her to Mary Baldwin College. Aimee often talked with Ivette about her MBC friendships, one-on-one attention from professors, and cultural events on campus. After checking out a large university closer to home, Ivette was convinced that she would also thrive in the small, close-knit Mary Baldwin community. As additional incentive, Ivette received a legacy scholarship, awarded to members of the same family who attend MBC. As the siblings each find their individual voices they enjoy singing together in the college choir. It’s their more grown-up version of sharing toys.
Sorry to be a few days late!

Students enjoy the mini-farmer's market set up as part of Food Day at MBC yesterday. In addition to setting up food vendors in front of Hunt Dining Hall, there was live music, a bar featuring local beer and wine, and a dinner sourced with local ingredients.
