I am at Melo cream on North Grand every day during the week day to visit with some people I usually have a donut but lately before 9 they are just about out of doughnuts, this has been going on for pr...obably a year it seems like the quality has went out the window whoever is over all the ordering and quality control really needs figure this situation out this is a small town business I would hate to see the bigger franchises went out over another small business. There is no reason that at 8:30 in the morning there is less than two trays left with a very limited assortment See More

I'd love to give 2.5 stars but it's not possible. And I don't necessarily feel like my experience was worth rounding up to three stars.
I visited the Mel-O-Cream on Monroe Street. The staff was nice ...and the store was reasonably clean. But I was disappointed in the quality of the doughnuts and how they were displayed.
They were displayed in a typical fashion, in a case on trays, but the labels were incorrect. I know that is a minor detail but when you have never been to a business before proper labeling is very beneficial on being able to make a proper order.
I ordered a cream filled doughnut and a glazed cinnamon roll. They both were dry. The cream filled doughnut only had a small amount of filling.
But on a positive note about the doughnuts I purchased, even though dry, had an okay taste. The cinnamon roll's glaze had an interesting crispness to it.

I have been going to mel-o-cream for almost 19 years. They are the best donuts hands down. I have travelled all over the State and used to take to meeting amd everyone loved them. Now my State Farm fa...mily gets them and they are hooked. Outstanding service as well!!! Thank you for being here and providing the best donuts please dont ever leave!! See More

Staff is very friendly, which is a plus, but overall the donuts are mediocre.

I wanted to love this place. ...

I've given it a couple of chances, but overall, I leave underwhelmed.

I'm not sure why everyone in Springfield seems to rave about them. I guess perhaps it's because they've never really experienced many other donut shops, or at least, not many outside of Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts.

Overall, they taste like something I can get in a grocery store (which is likely, because Mel-o-cream donuts are frozen, right?) and that's perfectly fine, but definitely not the best donut out there. I came from a place that had two very competitive donut shops in town, they were open 24/7 (Mel-o-cream hours are sort of inconvenient to my schedule, but great for others. I just prefer 24/7 joints) and they made their donuts from scratch - in house. They were fluffier, and a lot less dense than the donuts I've had at Mel-O-Cream.

To me, and this is saying something tremendous here, I'd prefer to go to Krispy Kreme.

I'm not a huge fan of chain donut shops. I prefer local. But that being said, Krispy Kreme donut quality is similar, the flavor selection is a lot more vast (if you go later in the day in the short hours Mel-O-Cream is open, you don't get a huge selection), and the hours are longer.

I mean, maybe I'm just missing out because I can't get to Mel-O-Cream at 6AM because of my work schedule, but what I've had the couple of times I've been has been severely underwhelming and tastes exactly like I went to Schnucks and got something out of their deli. But at Schnucks, at least I can get more flavor options.

Ordered 3 dozen glazed donuts (9 days ahead of time) for the pre k halloween party to be told when I go to pick them up that they have my name and order but no donuts for me. Also didnt have 3 dozen ...glazed to complete order at 625 am. Thankful that Walmart is close and had donuts so kids still got them. Guess in future we will just know to go somewhere else. See More

I have officially purchased my last mel-o-cream donut. Over this past year the quality has really gone down hill. The first time, I thought I had just gotten a bad batch, the second time I was begin...ning to wonder and then yesterday, I ordered another 2 dozen and they MUST be day or two old donuts, they absolutely were not fresh, the glazed donuts are only "glazed" on one side, they are no longer fluffy, the jelly "filled" was more like, "Where's the jelly?". These have been my favorite donuts for life, the newbies in town would have never gotten my business, but I am tired of spending $13 for a dozen of old, sub-par donuts. It's bad when your grocery store donuts (that are 1/3 the price) taste better and lasts longer than mel-o-cream. Sorry, but you had your chance to keep a very loyal customer, but whatever changes you have made and corners you have cut have REALLY shown that you don't care as much about the customers that you WERE able to keep even with the new competitors in town. Bye Bye Mel-O!! See More

I moved to San Antonio, TX two years ago. There are plenty of good donut shops here (duh, they're donuts!) from national chains like Dunkin and Krispy Kreme to locals like Shipley's and River City Don...uts. None of them are as good as Mel-O-Creme. Whenever I come back to visit central Illinois, a trip to Mel-O-Creme is always on the itinerary. Gotta get those Bismarcks and Lemon Honeymooners! See More

Please open one in St. Louis. We have a gazillion shops and grocery stores selling donuts but none compare.

Yes I grew up in Springfield and the family had Mel-O-Cream so often I may be a tad bias...ed. In reality I should be burnt out on them. But from the glaze you use to the frosting I could eat them every day.

My faves are the honeymooner, crunch bun and any french donut but especially the chocolate topped. After reading about butter cakes from B&Z and Community bakeries on Memories Of Springfield FB page you would do good to bring back those thin gooey slices of heaven. I know you had them for a while. The thick things they call gooey buttercake here is not the Springield buttercake I know.

Love you guys. Would love to see you in the Lou. If you need a manager for it, call me. :D

I've always loved Mel-O-Cream. Still buy them today, & think they are very good, but I think their quality & quantity they've been having on the sixth st location have been down lately.
Somebody told ...me the other day that they are frozen before we get them in the morning, hope that's not true!! See More

I often drive through the 6th street store for donuts for myself and often take a box or two to work from my department. Always fresh and delicious. Super friendly staff at that store too.

I grew up five houses from the bakery on Laurel. Best smelling neighborhood in Springfield. I remember the buttercake from my childhood. Always friendly employees at the counter to help. The smell whe...n you walk into that store has not changed in 50 years. It's comforting and welcoming. See More

We left Springfield in 1965. Whenever my grandmother came to visit, she would bring Mel-O-Cream to our house. Now everyone's gone, but I still stop for donuts to bring home to Wisconsin whenever I get to town.

As a native son of Springfield, Illinois, I was raised on Mel-O-Cream donuts. They are by far the best donuts anywhere. I am a frequent customer and love getting the Bismarcks (cream-filled), Long Joh...ns, and the red raspberry (jelly-filled). See More

Been going since I was little, I'm now 63 years old. I remember when they were in the parking ramp on 4th and Washington. My mom and I would get a donut before we went home from a day of shopping.
