Data collection for Merced County’s pavement management system has begun! A pavement management system will help decision makers make cost-effective decisions concerning the maintenance and rehabilitation of their jurisdiction’s pavement. It provides tools for rating roadway pavement condition, establishing a consistent maintenance and repair schedule, and evaluating the effectiveness of maintenance strategies.

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY HELPS KEEP ROADWAYS BEAUTIFUL AND COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
Looking to follow through on that New Year’s Resolution? You know the one, where you vowe...d to get in shape and take a role in shaping your community?
Caltrans has the answer: Join the Adopt-A-Highway Program, keeping our roads beautiful while spending time with co-workers or friends. More than 120,000 residents have improved 15,000 shoulder miles in the program’s three decades.
The program is open to organizations, businesses, government agencies, civic groups, residents and others. It’s an opportunity to join a group for periodical cleanup days, building up a sweat while removing weeds and collecting litter.
Next time you drive by, you’ll enjoy seeing the fruits of your labor.
Get involved by visiting Adopt-A-Highway.dot.ca.gov or calling the Caltrans District 10 coordinator at (209) 948-7462. District 10 oversees Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties.

PROJECT COMPLETE: MERCED COUNTY
Caltrans recently completed a $1.3 million project rehabilitating the bridge on northbound and southbound State Route 33 (SR-33)... at Interstate 5 in Santa Nella.
Construction began in September 2017 and concluded in January 2018, and included two full weekend closures of 56 and 43 hours, respectively.
The sidewalk on the bridge remained open throughout construction for pedestrians and bicyclists, and emergency vehicles had proper access during the full closures.
Due to Senate Bill 1, more projects like this one will begin across the state. Caltrans plans to repair and enhance 500 bridges over the course of the next decade.
This project will improve the road surface, efficiency of travel and safety for motorists traveling throughout Merced County.
Caltrans would like to extend our appreciation to motorists and residents for their patience and cooperation during this project.
