I am a Police officer from the Multicultural Unit, it is a unit within the Community Engagement Division, Western Australian Police. One of its objective is to engage with all the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities in Western Australia, including asylum seekers, refugees, migrant workers, international students, permanent residents and all other people from a non-native English speaking background.
The expected outcome of Multicultural Unit are as below:...-
„ Improved CaLD community compliance on police matters
„ Increased positive policing outcomes experienced by Police in relation to CaLD communities (and channels of communication)
„ Increased community confidence, appreciation and participation on police interactions by CaLD communities.
„ Increased reporting by CaLD communities.
„ Effective engagement strategies and services given to the CaLD communities
„ Increased engagement activities with different CaLD communities and stakeholders.
„ Reduced victimisation within the CaLD Communities
In order to achieve the above, I am reaching out to all senior representative body for CaLD leaders, establishing an open lines of communication with CaLD communities, educating CaLD groups to understand WA Police roles, responsibilities together with legal processes and procedures.
Officer from our office always spending our time attending and meeting with the CaLD community to share about protective behaviour (personal safety, social media, home security, domestic violent, driving offences, how to report crime etc.) and issues related to WA Police while ensuring of safety and enjoyable stay in WA.
