Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is a must see location for bird watchers. During Fall Migration a large of number of shore birds stop off at Mitchell Lake. These in life White Pelicans, American Avocets,... Black necked Stilts. American Coots, Northern Shovelers and many other shore birds. Some of the Fall visitors stay on through the winter. Most others rest, feed and strengthen at Mitchell Lake and then fly south to Central and South America for their winter sojourn.
Visiting Mitchell Lake during the Fall is a bird watchers delight.

Jake’s Wetland Ecology course was full of valuable information and lots of fun! Even though he said he was used to elementary age kids, Jake was able to teach a group of OLLU students some new things ...about wetlands as well. Jake was also able to identify every bird we saw/heard, which was impressive! Will definitely come back! See More

Probably not the best time of year in
January, but a very quiet and peaceful place to be on a Sunday morning.

I took my great niece and nephew to walk on the trails and found out it was Rockin' Reptiles day. I had no idea they had events, it was a nice surprise. They had crafts and games for the kiddos and ou...r hiking guide was extremely knowledgeable and the kids were able to touch a couple of real snakes. The staff interacted with the kids and answered all of their questions. My 6 yr. old great niece had a great time and wants to go back. I wish I would have known about the activities and volunteer opportunities, I think it needs to be publicized more. Take your kids there!! See More

Super friendly staff, educated about the birds that are there. Loved the lake and the cacadas were super buzzy on my walk through the trail. Absolutely lovely Audubon and special place.

Spent a spring break day with my two girls, ages 5 and 8, we did crafts, scavenger hunt, bingo, walk and car toured Mitchell Lake. The girls found lizards, ducks, snakes, coots, ducks and various othe...r birds, even coyote scat(poop). It was such a fun and peaceful day even when the girls picked on another. Definitely a place to go back to! Thank you to everyone at The Audubon Center! See More

Our family went on a car tour, and it was a lovely, fun experience. Due to the great heat, we did not leave the car, but we had that opportunity. The car trail went through several types of habitats, ...from grassland to water. A marvelous view of many birds, plants and insects. I have signed up for a beginning birder class, and many other programs and classes are available. The Visitor Center staff was very friendly and helpful, and the gift items are of good quality and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to my next visit. See More

I see something new each time I visit! This is a beautiful place to see birds, wildflowers and a variety of animals in a mixture of habitats. It can be hot and humid, so bring lots of water and bug spray.

The programs they put on are always very well executed and a lot of fun for my 5 yr old daughter. Their staff are engaging, answer off the wall questions from kids with ease and with facts, and make e...ducational programs into an adventure. See More

We had another great visit there. We were directed to see the Cattle Egret rookery and were truly impressed. It's an easy place to visit and explore on foot and in the car.
