With over a quarter of people living in the insecure private rented sector with soaring rents the time is now to fully back 'Generation Rent' in its national campaign to cast a spotlight on this issue. (Cllr Stephen Lambert, director, Education4Democracy CIC) See More

Original rating was one star due to group having 950 likes from 11,000,000 private renters after a year, which is piss poor. But to be fair one of the members contacted me to discuss things which has be respected. Also the group has very good intentions which counts for a lot and I thoroughly support the aims of the group so I've upped my stars to 3. Let's get more grass roots support and let's start taking this current government to task for their appalling record. We need Central Government to start enacting policies to make real change! Disgusting that anyone has to pay even half of the average rents for a roof over their heads. Need before greed!

Incredible work by ACORN Newcastle exposing landlords who are advertising rooms in return for sex - it takes real guts to confront someone in this way.

ACORN Newcastle

Sex-for-rent landlords listen up: before you post that next advert on Craigslist or Gumtree, ask yourself if you're willing to risk being exposed by ACORN.

ACO...RN supports the recognition of sex work as legitimate work, with full protection from the law, unionisation, and the right to say no. The tenant-landlord relationship is a different power dynamic. It is inherently exploitative with no right to say no without risking losing your home. The authorities might not take this seriously, but we very much do.

Landlords can evict tenants without needing a reason. This is the subject of tonight's BBC Panorama - tune into BBC1 at 8.30 #endsection21

If the rent bill keeps rising, renters will only become a more powerful political force. The question for politicians is whether they do something about rents now - or later.

The national cost of renting from a private landlord passed £50bn for the first time last year to hit a record high, according new figures from the estate

An extra £30bn a year compared to 2006: that's £30bn many of us would prefer to be using to pay off our own mortgage - or simply to make ends meet

Time for rent control

Rents double in a decade and could eclipse entire sum paid for mortgages by homeowners
