Marcia Davis updated her cover photo.
It was so windy today, 30 mph gusts at times, that I had to take a chair out on the deck and wait for moments when the tree held still for half a second.

Sue and I are spending a few days in Harney County (eastern Oregon). I've been talking about the book Kate Wilhelm and I worked on for five years, The Hills Are... Dancing. Each summer, we would pack up my Volkswagen van and head to different parts of Oregon, including Harney County, for two weeks at a time. Wherever we stopped, she made notes, I photographed, and we both sat quietly for long periods. We enjoyed our many conversations, shared common and sometimes contrasting perceptions of what we saw, and camped among pine and fir forests, sage brush, mountaintops, and playas. We determined at the beginning of our project that these journeys would explore borders and boundaries—real and metaphorical; words and images: state lines, water and air, mothers and sons... The book was published in 1986.

Computing, in its way, and science, in its broader way,
both involve the relation between what appears limited
and what appears not. Whether you believe in divinity
or not, and whether you believe that humanity contains
a spark of divinity or not, we have to acknowledge that
our powers as oracles a...

Basically I gave each disk in the Tower of Hanoi a different music note and then solved it. Turns out it makes a pretty cool pattern https://oeis.org/A001511...

And as his gaze followed the burly figure of the prophet, he was touched by something strange and fleeting, far more remote than Armageddon. He had been touched by the dark finger of Chance, but he did not know it.

❝There is neither source nor end, for all things are in the Center of Time. As all the stars may be reflected in a round raindrop falling in the night: so too do all the stars reflect the raindrop. There is neither darkness nor death, for all things are, in the Light of the Moment, and their end and their beginning are one.❞

Between the discovery and the invention,
Falls the Shadow, who knows, you know,
By tracking backward, retracing the steps
Of the tourist, who comes not to conquer,
But to enjoy the winding stair to the place.

“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.
And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger — something better, pushing right back.” — Albert Camus

The known universe has one complete lover and that is the greatest poet. He consumes an eternal passion and is indifferent which chance happens and which possible contingency of fortune or misfortune and persuades daily and hourly his delicious pay.

No one who exists
Ever ceases to exist.
It’s just one’s vision —
Temporarily obscured.
