Of course people in Oxford are right to be angry about the long term abuse by criminal gangs.. Andrew Smith, the Labour MP for Oxford East, called in parliament for a proper inquiry into why the police force, the councils, and the other services did nothing for so many years – and silenced the whistle blowers as well. Our campaign had a vigil for an independent inquiry last week, and we will be holding a public meeting and launching a petition.

But we blame no one community for abuse. Jimmy Saville was white. Cyril Smith was white. The many powerful men currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police were all white. The senior officials in Oxfordshire who did nothing were overwhelmingly white. This is a problem for all of us, and we will fix it together. Our campaign welcomes people of faiths and communities to our activities.
