Jackie. 18x24, oil on linen. Available. Painted this for the BP portrait competition. Jackie was a Vietnamese man we saw around the Mekong river delta. Apparently he fought for the Americans in the Vietnam war. This was a lot of fun to paint!
Last painting of 2017. "Drinking Wine on a Rainy Day in Taipei". 20x30. This one took a surprisingly long time. Originally we were going to do a sunset scene, but it was raining as always in Taipei so went found a cafe near Elephant Mountain and did this scene instead. Its available. "Pray". 40x15 oil on linen. Original and Prints available. This is a painting I did of an interesting guy I know who is an entrepreneur and musician from London, living in Syberia. Here he re-discovered his faith. Print here: https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/pavelsokov/pray/
Tiny 5x7 color study to plan for a 20x30 painting. Not sure if I want to keep the horizontal composition, or go vertical. I did enjoy the idea of making a tiny study of the painting you plan on doing, it gets you noticing things about your reference, and figuring out how to mix its colors. The face here is the size of a finger nail about.
"With best friend at the lake". 11x14, oil on linen. Commissioned double portrait for a client in Hong Kong. This was one of those rare paintings that went very smoothly with no obstacles or problems. Happens only about a couple times a year usually, but i appreciate it when it does.
