One of our favorite ladies Mallory Carter!
I first met Mallory at a bar in Portland in 2013. We had recently joined the Portlan...d Beardsmen so it was nice to have another lady around with all of the crazy boys. Mal and I clicked right away and I became a bit of a "beard mentor" to her. She is so creative with all of the beards that she creates. Every time she competes I am blown away and amazed by the time she has put in. She is such an asset to our community and am proud to call her a really great friend. - Lauren
1. Where are you from, and what do you do for a living?
I'm originally from Coral Springs, FL. I've lived in Oregon for 7.5 years. For a living I am a Recruiter for a large law firm, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
2. What club are you a part of? How did you first find out about your club?
I am a member of the Portland Beardsmen. My boyfriend Danny and I discovered the Beardsmen about 4.5 years ago through a friend's roommate. We attended a few beard nights, then our first competition, and were hooked.
3. How did you get involved in being a Whiskerina? Was it the first competition that you went to?
I watched some small competitions for months before I finally competed in the 2ndPortland vs. Seattle Civil War. I’ve competed in as many comps as I can ever since.
4. Do you have a favorite “beard” that you are most proud of?
I have a couple, but I think that my PBR tab beard+stache is my favorite (so far). That beard took weeks and many many hours to hand sew 750 beer/soda tabs with rainbow twine, was 3.5ft long, and had a mustache made out of flattened/cut/curled Pabst cans, topped off with a PBR box skirt.
5. Do you have a preferred material that you like to create your beards with? Or any tips for creating a beard for fellow Whiskerinas?
Favorite materials that I’ve used in some past beards are beverage based: Recycled bottle caps, tabs, & cans. Tips: In every beard of mine I’ve used heavy duty floral wire. It’s cheap to buy and durable for holding heavier materials. It’s what I trust for connecting my beards to my head even if not used in the design. *Pliers recommended. A side tip/personal preference: Make your beard hands-free! They are beards, not dioramas, so you shouldn't have to hold them.
6.What are some of your hobbies or fun things you do in your free time when not involved in Bearding?
My boyfriend Danny and I love hiking and camping or anything outdoors. Besides that, another hobby I enjoy is being a part-time pirate with a group called PDX YAR. We put on miscellaneous events throughout the year that involve shanties, black powder (firing cannons & flintlocks), on stage combat, and various takeovers of parties, bars, businesses, beaches, and brew fests. I also work in misc. roles at Portland's Fright Town in October. Last year mainly as a ghost pirate. It's a lot of fun scaring people.
7. What do you like best about being a part of this crazy community?
I love that we do this for charity. It’s such a fun way to raise money for a good cause. The Beardsmen are my 2ndfamily and I enjoy seeing them for any event. You have such an eclectic group of individuals, and are always meeting new friends from all over the US, and even the world.
8. Do you have a favorite competition that you like to attend or one that you are hoping to attend in the future?
My favorite of course is the Rose City Beard & Mustache Competition in Portland, OR. Spokane is #2. I would like to branch out and travel more. The next competitions on my bucket list would be Vancouver B.C., California, Utah, and Idaho.
RVA and Spokane coming through and putting us over 10k. Thank you!
The beard community never fails to surprise me. After mentioning we made nearly $10,000 this weekend, I was contacted by our brothers from the clubs in the Spo...kane, WA and Richmond, VA. They asked just how close we were and if they could donate to put us over the top.
Thank you so much! The support you guys have showed us is outstanding. The money you donated will go a long way to help these kids. I'm at a loss for words.

Happy Friday everyone! For the next 24 hours we will be doing what we call a "Bearded Blitz." If we can get at least 20 more competitors to purchase their ticke...ts we will give every competitor a free RCBMC patch at check in. These patches will only be free to all competitors if we can have at least 20 more people sign up in the next 24 hours. So this is your chance to sign up and join in on all of the fun next weekend. What's that? You already got yours? Still want a patch? Talk to those people around you and get them to sign up.
The picture is a preview of what part of the patch will look like. It will be more detailed and exciting in person. Ready set buy those tickets!

Things are really gearing up, let's gather together and make this our best year yet!
This is it! Less than a week before the comp. Big important information about the comp and related events. Last big push for tickets and sponsors. We're also holding a vote for club MVP, so make sure to come and have your voice heard!
The 3rd Rose City Beard and Moustache Competition is almost here. If you haven't yet, go get yourself a ticket and compete.
