Speed up trains across North America! Rebuild what we have, now!
2
A Norman Rockwell scene in West Linn, Oregon, along the Willamette River. The whir of an approaching Union Pacific Railroad intermodal train. The service has daily capacity for about 500 trucks and containers, wherein lies the problem. Highway truck traffic, in the I-5 corridor it runs, between Los Angeles and Seattle, is approaching 8,500 daily trucks. The solution is to rebuild railroads to Steel Interstate standards to leverage service innovation. For example, see the animation on Land Ferry, https://faculty.unlv.edu/tnmc/LandFerry/Videos.php, where both commercial truck and driver may ride the train. It’s better for truckers, railroaders, and the public, too!
