Tell people what you think

The Rawlins Library is full of knowledgeable people. They are also full of people who know their limits. If one cannot find the correct answer, they will get somebody else to help. I needed help with ...online audiobooks (I like to listen in my car) and they set me up and answered all questions. They have a HUGE selection of books on CD, too! They are also a busy library, but get to you as soon as possible. The day I first went in, it was full of school kids, probably doing an after school activity, and it made me happy seeing a library so full. One might get angry that they are not helped immediately, but would you want your help running out on you to go to somebody else? I don't think so. They're only human. So buck up and enjoy a good book while you wait. Overall, good job Rawlins. See More

South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center

There are many important objects in the collection of the South Dakota State Historical Society. One of these objects almost never made it to the collection: th...e La Verendrye plate. This small lead plate was buried in 1743 by the La Verendrye brothers, to claim the land for France. It remained there until February 16, 1913, when a group of teenagers stumbled upon the plate sticking out of a bluff. The group had intended to turn in the valuable lead to earn some money. As luck would have it the group’s find came to the attention of Doane Robinson, allowing the group to donate their valuable find to the collection of the South Dakota State Historical Society. Come see the plate and many other important pieces of South Dakota heritage at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center.

Today is not only Valentine's Day but also "International Book Giving Day". People can give books as gifts to their own children, grand-children or to those of friends. You can donate books to children’s libraries, schools or charities. Other ideas are to leave books in places where they’ll be found.
