Two sisters, Meredith and Mikki...who could not be any more different than the other, but with hearts as big as the ocean; they taught me everything I needed to know about the inner workings of a ballroom studio, kept me from getting my homework done and made sure I always ate; but mostly they made me part of their family and gave me a place in Texas to call home. I love them like they were my own sisters.
The life of my little Peanut angel is about to change in a very big way... little sister Simone Sage is due to make her appearance any time now. Donut Tuesday will always be a tradition for Peanut and I, and so I documented Peanut's last solo trip to Countryside Donuts. I know that my heart is big enough to love two grandbabies, but there will always be a special place for this one. It was sunny, it was fun, and it was magical...and like the day she was born, one that I will never forget.
I haven't met a bride yet who didn't have some unpredictable, spontaneous moments on their wedding day that I almost missed. This was Monet's moment; as she was leaving her own ceremony, she made a beeline for a group of people heading toward her guests. I thought she was going to ask them to avoid cutting through the area where her guests were. Nope...she stopped to ask them if she could pet their dog. If you knew Monet, you would not be surprised.
For the last couple of years, I have been working on shooting more objects than people...so I started my summer photojournalism project by shooting things that I found interesting. Today I was challenged to do a photo journal of strangers...and I took it on. The real challenge is that they are not allowed to stay strangers, meaning that I have to meet them, learn their story and document with photos. Although I'm an extroverted people person and love making new friends, this might be just a little out of my comfort zone. You can follow me on Tumblr...settingupthepins.tumblr.com. Wish me luck!
Last year I posted a birthday photo of Brookelyne and accidently aged her a year ahead of herself. Well, I'm a day late this year, but at least I got her age right this time. Happy 18th birthday, sweet, arachnophobic, not-a-morning person friend of mine. You're a wonderful addition to the repetoire of people that I feel blessed to have in my life. #iamtheluckiest
