For those Renegades that are interested, our friends at the Arabian Shakespeare Festival are opening a great show next week, Jihad Jones and the Kalashnikov Babes by Yussef El Guindi and directed by William Brown. It also features our own Sean C. Murphy.
The show involves an Arab American actor that gets the opportunity of a lifetime to move from theatre to film and work with Hollywood's biggest director and co-star with one of the most famous actresses. The rub is he must p...ortay a stereotypical, evil, fanatical Islamic terrorist. Does he stay true to his personal ethics and cultural pride to remain a nobody actor or does he follow his professional ambition and make it big? The show opens on 3/30 and closes on 4/16 running Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at the Royce Gallery in San Francisco.
The Arabian Shakespeare Festival has created a special discount code for Renegades to get discounted tickets. Use the code SEANISBACK at http://m.bpt.me/event/2789661.
A year ago yesterday, we opened The North Plan by Jason Wells. At the curtain speech, I announced that we were going to be pausing the Experiment to recharge, renew, and review the future of Renegade. I promised all of you that we would reach out in about a year to let you know where we were going. Soooooo…hi there. It’s been a year and it is time we wake up.
Several of you have reached out to me over the past year asking what the plans for Renegade are and ...I did not have a solid answer. The reality is that the challenges we faced a year ago still exist today. Fundraising for non-profit theatre is really stinkin’ difficult. Two of our friends in the theatre community, Impact Theatre and Festival Theatre Ensemble, also suspended operations over this last year for similar reasons. Additionally, we need to refresh our organizational leadership and capacity to ensure we have a sustainable model for growth and development.
In the coming weeks, the RTE Ensemble will gather to discuss our future. The previous model of operation was not working and will likely not be our future, but we need to determine, as a group, what we want the future to be. We need people to step up and take up the RTE banner to move our community forward. Look for an update on this discussion in the beginning of March.
You are a vital piece of the equation and I want to hear what you think about the future of RTE. What need still exists within our community that calls for RTE to address? What role do you want Renegade to play in your life and what are you prepared to do to help RTE thrive? Whether it is patron, donor, or you are interested in joining the management team, you have a role helping the Experiment return to the stage. What can we do together to bring it back and make it better than ever?
When you have a moment, please email me at smurphy@renegadetheatre with your thoughts. Any and all insights are deeply appreciated.
It is time for Renegade to wake up.
Renegades, one of our own is missing. We had the good fortune of William gracing the RTE stage in our productions of TITUS ANDRONICUS and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. He is currently missing. If you have seen him or have information, please contact Officer Megan Hewitt of the Vallejo Police Department at email@example.com or by calling (707) 648-4321.
For everyone that wanted to know, I have William Hunter's missing persons case number. 15-10177
If you have any info or come across any new information you contact Officer M. Hewitt #622
Thank you, hoping for the best
