Before the bridges were built there were ferries that got Edmontonians and their wares from the north side to the south side of the North Saskatchewan. It's pretty amazing to look at the photo from 1910 versus the new Walterdale bridge.

River Day takes place at Rundle Park, June 11th, 10am-3pm.

'Freighters relied on the ferry to transport their wares across the North Saskatchewan. Here, they are seen unloading on the south bank c. 1910. Edmonton across the river is fairly undeveloped on the top bank prior to the real estate boom of 1911-1912.'

The average size of the lake sturgeon in the North Saskatchewan River is about 5 kilograms, but they can reach as much as 45.36 kilograms.
