Since opening in 1953, Moody Coliseum at SMU has been a popular destination for thousands of fans. When it came time for the renovation in 2013 — which expanded seat capacity to 7,000 - SMU executives also had high expectations for the athletic flooring.

“We had to think about the best interests of the players and their safety,” said Jason Nelson, director of event operations at SMU. "The new floor’s construction allows for more bounce. You can feel it underneath your feet - it’s catering to your weight. It's an incredible difference that will help prevent injuries - and there’s less wear and tear on athletes with a 30-game schedule. It’s been great.”

At Robbins, we have many dedicated employees that work behind the scenes every day to produce the best floors and provide the best customer service. Our all-star employees are Robbins Starting Lineup and together, we WIN as a team. So let's get to know them a little better! This month we would like you to meet: Allan Holbrook, Profile & Prefinish Supervisor in the White Lake, WI plant.

How long have you worked for Robbins? Almost 11 years.

Who have been your mentors? My out of work have been my dad and my grandpa. I would say my mentors at Robbins would be Kevin Listle and Lee Kruse.

What is your favorite part of your job? The favorite part of my job is the everyday challenges that push me to think outside of the box. The people that I interact with throughout the plant with are also one of my favorite parts of my job.

What has been your most memorable project? My most memorable project was being involved in the installation of the current equipment in the rough mill. I was working in the yard at the time as a skill pool. I was approached by Lee to be involved in the installation of the machinery. Both unloading and placement of all of it.

How has the business changed since you started? I feel the business has changed a lot since I started in 2007. The implementation of new processes, programs, and products have greatly increased our ability to supply customers with an even more wonderful product. I am excited about being part of the Robbins team and look forward to seeing what is in store for all of us in the future.

What advice do you have for someone who may be interested in working in the wood floor industry? The only advice that I have would to be ready to constantly grow yourself and adapt to change. The process and customer demands may rapidly change, but the result is the same amazing product.

Making the decision of which new gym floor you should purchase can be overwhelming, especially when you are combing through the long list of available flooring options. After a while, they all start to look the same... and that makes them all equal, right? Not quite.

Beneath the surface of a shiny hardwood floor is a well-engineered subfloor consisting of just the right amount of mechanical features that provide protection for the athlete. When considering which floor is a good fit for you, safety should play an equally important role in your decision.

Vinyl might be a good option for the siding on your house, or your favorite 45 record... but in a school gymnasium at the heart of most school activities? We think not!

The vinyl gym floor at Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, FL experienced complete failure after 10 years that was also affecting their athletes safety. After spending a lot of time and money on repairs, parents and administrators decided that their students deserved better. They chose a premium Robbins maple floor installed by Robbins dealer, Impact Sports Surfaces.

How do you transform a 350,000 sqft Olympic Oval into a multipurpose athletic space?! With Robbins of course!

The Richmond Olympic Oval was used to host the 2010 winter Olympics. After the Olympics ended the community decided to turn it into a community athletic center. But that was no easy task with so much square footage to cover. The Oval turned to Robbins and local experts Centaur Products, and ultimately chose a Pulastic SP 140 floor for its durability and spike proof qualities. It is the largest poured continuous synthetic sports floor in the world!
