Next San Diego Immunization Coalition Meeting: San Diego County During Historical Pandemics
Wed, Feb 7 at 12:30 PM

Consider the current 2018 outbreak of influenza in San Diego County and across the country, and now imagine a time when there were no vaccines to prevent or minimize the severity of disease. We'll hear from three guest speakers about two diseases that caused historical worldwide outbreaks, and how San Diego is connected then and now.

Rick Kneeshaw, President of the San Diego Polio Survivors will share his experience living with polio
Dr. Richard Coutts from the San Diego Rotary will share Rotary International's efforts to eradicate polio, especially with the local chapter's efforts with the Don't Wait...Vaccinate! committee. You can understand why just one new case of polio worldwide impacts the definition of eradication.

Richard Crawford will share how the "mother of all pandemics" affected San Diego County. In fact, the 1918 influenza virus is linked to all influenza A pandemics since that time. Mr. Crawford is a published historian who authored San Diego Yesterday and works at the San Diego Library.

LOCATION: 3851 Rosecrans Street, San Diego 92110 in the San Diego Room

The County is in the process of creating the vaccine schedule for Shingrix. As soon as they have that in place, they are going to add it in SDIR.

They will notify all SDIR users once they have added the Shingrix in SDIR.
