Fl born and raised, great week spent with my best friend and her dad (wish it had been warmer for them, but it beats the snow in Ohio). Rooms are very clean, staff very accommodating. Our only complai...nt is the lack of a dresser. If you're there for a week, or more, you'd like to take your clothes out of the suitcase. See More

First time staying will definitely be back soon. I love the old feel. Rooms are not perfect but cozy. You could sleep 7 people in the room. Bedroom has 2 beds, living room has a pull out couch and a... daybed type thing. Loved the old metal desk and dressers. The beds were not the best, but we're ok. Yes it is outdated, but that is what made us like it even more, besides the great price for the 3 nights we stayed. Staff was very helpful and nice. I found out that they are completely remodeling the rooms over the next few months, I hope they keep some of the old feel. If you want a 5 star hotel with a pricey weekend this is not the place to stay. If you want an old Florida hotel feel this will be the perfect place. Will be back soon. Thanks for a great weekend. All was good as long as you don't mind being awaken @a very early hour on your vacation b/c of construction or something in the next room scraping & banging the wall your beds butt up too. Could hav...e definitely done w/out that first thing in the morning. Other than that things were as we expected them to be. Not fancy, but we didn't expect them to be. We would come back again if construction isn't an issue... See More

We just left there yesterday, first time staying there. It is not fancy, but it was perfect for a spot right on the beach. It was really inexpensive compared to other beach front places and the staf...f was all really friendly. For all the bad reviews out there...I believe those people were expecting to check in to a 5 star resort with all the bells and whistles. No, this place doesn't have every amenity, but it is functional and suited our family's basic needs for budget friendly beach front access. Will definitely be back again...hopefully before this year is over. See More

Staying here for the first time for my birthday I love everything about this place. Full sized kitchen appliances, sleeps 6 people in a one bedroom. Plus the rooms are really cute. You can see some of... the age of this place but that's something I love about it since it's the first motel of Tresure Island. See More

Room was very dirty. Feet were black within 3hrs of walking around. Beds are very uncomfortable woke up every hour with back pain. Had to lean against the doors to close them. Desk in room had crumbs ...or dirt on the table and was engraved from previous people in the room. Bathroom door didnt shut. Tv remotes had no batteries in them. Blinds didnt shut so people could look in while they r in the pool. No parking near the motel, down and across the main road which is very unsafe to cross unless u walk 5-10 min down the road to the crosswalk. No communication with staff i know cause the person we checked in with was fine but when we got back there later and went in to see where we should park because there was no parking the guy didnt even know that room was suppose to have people in it that night and was not clear where to park. It was okay cuz i wasnt paying for the room but my grandfather did for a birthday gift, was not worth the money he paid for it. I did like how we were right next to the pool and could see the beach from the motel, very long walk to beach way longer than they told us it would be. Didnt even make it 100yrds and decided to turn around and it wasnt worth it. See More

The location of this motel is perfect and you can't find anything cheaper that is beachfront. However, you get what you pay for. Let me start by saying we had no problems with staff, everyone was very... friendly. I can't speak for other rooms but our room was very outdated. The carpet was filthy - my kids feet were black just by walking around in the living room space. The fridge didn't work - we ended up having to use a cooler. Half of the outlets did not work. None of the lamps worked. The tv didn't come in clear. There was dirt and grime built up in the bathroom - it really needed a good scrub down. The outdoor area is nice though, we sat outside in the morning and evening everyday. They also have beach toys and pool floats you can use. I can't decide if I would stay here again or not. It just needs some updating and a major cleaning. See More

We recently returned for our 2nd visit to this hotel. The first time I guess I was enamored wit the fact we were staying on the beach but this visit the rose colored glasses were off:

Upon arrival, a...fter reserving the our room 1 year ago as we checked out last year, the hotel put us in a different room. The reservation card had our original room on it but it was now circled and lined out with an arrow point to another room number. BUT after some discussion we were back in our original room.

The room was warm and the ac units at best kept the rooms cool, never cold. The refrigerator was hot but eventually cooled down to an almost acceptable level for drinks. The refrigerator is old, last time I though it was neat and retro but this time it was barely functioning and dirty. The kitchen sink was dirty and there were termite droppings at the back door area. We would not use the plate ware or any of their utensils. The bathroom had soap scum and when we through out the garbage bag, there was a used Trojan condom wrapper at the bottom of the can. The towels and linen are stained and old. Half the drawers in the place are hard to open with knobs fallen off. The carpets are dirty and sandy prior to going to the beach. We had a cockroach that was too fast to kill. The beds were old and uncomfortable as well as there was some sort of condiments and pepper like stuff in the bedroom draws. On the 3rd night of out stay, the toilet would not fill up. When I went up to the front desk the man there told me that maintenance would not be at the hotel to Monday and there was no other room for us. I asked for the parts so I could replace the tower but he then said they do not keep any parts on location. So I had to go two more nights with a non functioning toilet. I ask for a bucket so I could get water from the bathtub to pour into the back of the toilet so I could flush it. He gave me a tall garbage can. I explained AGAIN I would have to get the water from the bathtub. I asked for an ice bucket but got a small trash can. I eventually played with it and got it to slowly fill. OH yeah, the pool had a brown algae down below the surface on the side of the pool so we only swam at the beach.

What difference when the rose colored glasses come off. Don't do it people, there are a lot of hotels on the beach. I hope some people will learn from this post before they pull it down. Sorry Sands, the whole no maintenance/toilet until Monday was the last straw.

My sister and I used to come here when we were little girls. I don't really remember it but I'm glad I decided to bring my daughter here on our vacation.

Built in 1947 this place feels as if you ste...pped back into the 1950's. It's quaint charm and character make The Sands of Treasure Island a great place to stay!

If you are looking for the Hilton this place is definitely not for you, but if you are looking for a spacious place on the beach at an inexpensive price I highly recommend checking this place out!

This is by far the worst place I have ever set foot in....oh the staff is nice enough to your face when you come in to stay or to look for a job/ but that is all just a front for your $$$ ....this is of the most cut throat dirty filthy places I've ever seen on Treasure Island Beach Fl.33706. I don't know how anyone can stay in a motel that is so filthy dirty even the sheets towels pillow cases and wash cloths are all stained up.The rugs carpet the beds and furniture all look so old many drawers on the dressers won't open or fall apart. There's years worth of built up crud and grim all around the floors the walls the windows and doors. Two of the oldest staying housekeepers don't clean at all but sit around watching tv in the rooms they are supposed to be cleaning or the one goes up to her favorite room to drink and take a nap....but thats OK with Randy the wanna-be manager he has a deal going on with the girls "Wink Wink ;-) .If you try to get too friendly or close to him though watch out he may just think your after his job and fire you!!!!!!! Talk about someone who doesn't know how to read people or know when he is being played by his workers like a puppet on their strings as they joke about having him in their "Hip Pocket".... so if you like fake people dirty filthy rooms and bugs Well come on down to the Sands to stay awhile, but if you come for anything more....thats all your going to get is Sand!!!!!!! The Sands of Treasure Island is open for business! The storm did some damage to the fence, broke a few windows and a few of the rooms got a little wet but there's nothing that can't be replaced. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and concern.

One of the residents of Treasure Island decided not to evacuate. He is using his cell phone to upload video updates of the storm. There is no electricity yet on the island so he is using his car charger to keep his phone battery powered. Based on this video from this morning it appears that Treasure Island was not hit very badly. We hope to know more about damage to the Sands tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Morning (after charging phone in a car; power still out)

Treasure Island has begun to evacuate in anticipation of Hurricane Irma. As a precaution, The Sands of Treasure Island will close tomorrow morning and is planning to re-open on Tuesday, September 12th. If you are one of our guests in the path of this storm our thoughts are with you. Please be safe.

This small whale washed up on Treasure Island, just north of St.Pete Beach, Florida, on Sunday morning. He was rescued with the help of Clearwater Marine volunteers and taken to sea world in Orlando for you valuation and care. It is not known what species of well it is, but it is about 7 feet long and weighs about 400 pounds. - Adam Walser I-Team
