Would like to see more pictures of the events, such as the classified breakfast that was held this morning. I think that those that may not be able to attend an event would enjoy the pictures and that attended would be happy to see some pictures of their peers, co-workers and friends. See More

Congratulations to RRHS CTE Law Enforcement senior, Gustavo Alberto Rodriguez, Jr. . . .

Yesterday, Gustavo signed with Pima Community College. What makes this particularly special is that Gustavo is already enrolled with Pima. He intends to major in Forensics, and is currently enrolled in a prerequisite photography class.

Here he is signing (on the right at the signing table) and with his parents, Clara Lopez and Carlos Maldonado. Again, congratulations, Gustavo.

Tumacácori O’odham Tash

Tumacácori National Historical Park protects the ruins of a Spanish colonial mission to the native O’odham people. It is the O’odham residents of this community who formed and laid the bricks of the church, tilled the fields, and wrangled the mission livestock. Their culture and traditions live on today, focused in the lands of the Tohono O’odham nation. This spring Tumacácori will hold its second annual “O’odham Tash,” or, in English, “O’odham Day,” i...n celebration of the legacy and heritage of these desert people.

Between 10:00 and 1:00 on Sunday, March, 4, visitors to the mission grounds will be able to observe cultural demonstrators presenting traditional crafts and pastimes – basket weaving, painting, carving, pottery making, storytelling, and singing, and taste favorite traditional foods – fry bread, tepary beans, and cholla buds. There will be a workshop at 11:00 in which participants will be able to learn a favorite ball game, toka. The festivities will begin and conclude with singing and a blessing.

Admission to the park is $5.00 per adult, free for federal pass holders and children under age 16. For more information, call the visitor center at (520) 377-5060, or visit the park website at

Maya Donnelly, CREO Program Director, Santa Cruz County Superintendent’s Office, wrote to say,

“What a terrific job RRHS Mr. Maddock’s and Mrs. Cardena’s students did at the Young Engineer’s event we attended last Friday at the UofA. Students networked, participated in a STEM Challenge, and Jesus Velasco was part of the 2nd place winning team! “

Thanks, Maya, for the note and photos.

Congratulations San Cayetano NEHS Members . . .

This week, San Cayetano Elementary inducted 21 new members into the National Elementary Honor Society and welcomed back 3 from last year.

“Membership in the San Cayetano Elementary chapter of the National Honor Society has been earned by candidates through the effective demonstration of the four qualities that serve as standards for the Society,” said Miranda Valencia, San Cayetano NEHS Advisor. “The qualities include scholars...hip, character, leadership and service.”

The evening began with the presentation of Colors by the RRHS JROTC, followed by a welcome and opening remarks by Mimi Renteria, San Cayetano Principal. Guest speaker was Connie Williams with Friends of the Santa Cruz River Association and Anza Trail Coalition. Williams was invited because of her work in promoting among young audiences the importance of taking care of our natural resources.

“We are happier when we focus on something other than ourselves,” said Williams. “Community service helps us meet new people, and most importantly, we make our communities a better place to live.”
