I am very grateful to have the response of two officers this morning after hitting a patch of ice and sliding into the ditch this morning on 29! Being pregnant and on my way to work it was relief to b...e checked on to make sure I was alright and safe in the amount of time it took the officers to get to me and ensure my safety. Thank you! However, I am a bit disappointed, I understand for safety reasons my vehicle needed to be towed. My reason for not having the money for an added expense in my budget for just any towing Company to take my vehicle, I had made arrangements for a towing company of my choice to help with getting my vehicle out of the ditch. I was disappointed that after work my choice towing was not the ones who had towed my vehicle and that it was actually a call put in from the department to have another company to do so. I would have at least appreciated a call or a message to let me know what was being done to my vehicle, so that I could have made proper arrangements after work. Working in Green Bay and living in Keshena is a major commute for myself and I don't always have the resources to make last minute arrangements for a big commute as such. Again thanks to the officers for your response to ensure me and my unborn's safety it's really appreciated, but some communication would have been appreciated also! See More

Yesterday driving home from work, going south on busy highway 47,,,I had a car flying past me, as I was driving in the right passing lane,,,My cruise was set . As the car flew by me, I was really there was going to be a pleasant surprise coming up for the car "that seemed" to be in a hurry. Shawano's finest did not disappoint me,,,I smiled all the way home. Seeing the "car in a hurry," sitting on the side of the road, with an officer at it's window,,,Keep up the great job with the speeders on 47- Thank YOU for protecting us! See More

Let’s start off by thanking Miss Mary at the Shawano Sheriff’s Office for being so sweet to me super early in the morning. This morning was a heck of a day...

Office Breightenboch (I KNOW I butcher...ed that spelling) really helped me today. He got here, made me feel comfortable, helped with my car troubles because everywhere else was closed at 4:43am(I called the only 3 places by me and the closest police department - I don’t live in that county), and was pleasant the entire time. I cannot thank you enough! See More

Today I was reminded of the true goodness of people! We were on our way to a wedding in Wausau when my boyfriend ran over some concrete that had buckled on Highway 29. He couldn't move to avoid it due... to traffic in the other lane. It completely shredded my left rear tire almost down to the rim. We had to pull over quickly on busy 29 and weren't in the safest area or position for changing a tire. I called Triple A but it was going to be an hour and a half wait. They advised us to call the sheriff's department to get someone behind us for safety purposes.

Then along came our two knights in shining armor! First deputy Nathan Thornborrow from the Shawano County Sheriff's Department arrived and right behind him was a Good Samaritan who didn't give us his name. He had blond hair, maybe in his 20's, and was driving a blue pickup truck with Bedrock on his license plates. These two guys and my boyfriend got the vehicle moved to a safer area, and then tackled the job of changing the tire for us. I want to personally thank both of them for assisting us in a very dangerous situation. We were then able to move on down the road safely.

Even though we missed the wedding ceremony, thanks to their help, we will still make the dinner/reception. God bless both of you! You certainly deserve credit for going above and beyond providing assistance. I know sometimes police officers are given a bad rap by some, but I want everyone to know about this great young officer and the other man who helped him. I want his supervisors to know that he's wonderful!

I can't be more thankful to the officer who helped me with my car tonight. Helping me move it and giving me a ride home. You didn't know this but my week had been hell and just stressful. You made it much more easier for me and helped me know that there is good people in this world. The small things matter so much thank you See More

I can not thank your office enough for your assistance in doing a welfare check on my dad in Cecil on Friday 5/12. I was very appreciative of the calls I received from the dispatcher & officer (sorry..., I can't remember your names) keeping me updated until I could get to Shawano from Sheboygan and for the help getting my dad in the house, getting him water, as well as staying with him until the med unit arrived & then for convincing him to go to the hospital. I breathed a sigh of relief when you told me you reached him by phone and then further in person. Words can't express how grateful I am that you were willing and able to get there and the time you spent communicating with me. It made a stressful situation a little less stressful. I made it to the hospital right when he did. Unfortunately he did have a stroke and was flighted to Milwaukee but is going to be OK.. Please forward my thank you to the dispatcher & officer that I dealt with that day. My entire family thanks you! See More

Last night - a stranger appeared on our doorstep with a dog. He was rambling non-sense and we had no idea what to do. We called the Sheriff Department and they came out. Instead of just arresting this... guy, the looked into his story - did research and all before making any rash judgements about it. Come to find out the gentleman was an Iraq War Veteran with PTSD and other mental health problems. They transported him and his service dog to the hospital in hopes of getting him the help he needs. Thank you so much Shawano County Sheriff. You did everything right. You listened to this man, and you tried everything to find out his story - when you could've just arrested him and done nothing for him. Thank you to the three deputies that took hours to help him. I opened my own home, which I purchased in November of 2009 in Cecil, WI. We had numerous break ins. Thousands of dollars of clothing, meat, valuables stolen. We had to have our key door tumbler re ke...yed numerous times. We also had our front porch shot at on opening of gun hunting in 2011. They did not ever find anyone who stole our own personal property. Nor seemed to care to ever actually take the time to solve the case. Having been a former member of the SHSO, jail division, it is really kind of pathetic. See More

Thank you to Officer William Uelmen.

In early June, my fiancé woke up to find his car sideswiped while parked legally on the street. Officer Uelmen arrived promptly and was very professional. He pat...rolled the area of the hit and run all that morning.

After a day or so, some people from our town had given us some information about a possible suspect.

We decided to call Officer Uelmen at 11:00PM to let him know the information, despite "hard evidence". He immediately went to check it out, found out that our information was correct, and got a confession.

Without his diligence and professionalism, we would have no chance at replacing my fiancé's car. Kudos to Officer Uelmen and the Shawano County Sheriff's Department.

This is a great and much needed site for Shawano. But I do have a question that I wish lawmakers would take serious: Why is it not illegal to drive with animals on your lap? Its a humongous distracti...on that caused the death of a young county worker this year, and Im sure many other deaths throughtout the country. It should be mandatory across America, that its illegal to drive with animals on ones lap, not to mention how unsafe it is for the animal. All animals , like kids, need to be sately secured in all moving vehicles for their own protection. See More

I dont know anything about Shawano County Sheriffs office itself, but i DO know that i drive a whole lot for work, and have made multiple complaints against officers and deputies from all over for speeding, improper lane change, tailgaiting, etc. Today, however, I passed a Shawano County vehicle heading southbound on 41 in Appleton, and he was clipping along at an even 70. Pat on the back if all your deputies are as well behaved. See More

I live in Birnamwood and travel on HWY 45 daily, I typically set my cruise to about 57-58 mph even though the speed limit on the HWY is 55. My speed is never fast enough for others on the HWY, they think the speed limit is 70!! This afternoon the department must have had a speed trap going on as we witnessed four people pulled over between Birnamwood and south to HWY 29.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, I know this won't stop the speeders and those who pass me even when there is a solid double yellow line but maybe it caused a few to think about their speed on 45!

Recently Deputy Thornborrow effectuated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which he knew the driver was suspended. Dispatch confirmed the driver to be suspended with 6 prior offenses. The vehicle was also unregistered and not insured. The driver was arrested for mutlipe Oconto County warrants. Motorists driving without a license, or those driving illegally on a suspended or revoked license are nearly three times more likely to cause a fatal crash. Sheriff Bieber

"To the individuals that went through my car last night while I was working in Cecil...please return my ipad. I don't care about the other stuff you stole but what you don't know, is you stole a piece of my heart. That ipad has hundreds of pictures of my son's wedding. I lost my son a year ago this Sunday. Those pictures can not be replaced, along with all the other pictures with my family. The ipad can be returned to the bar I work at or to me directly. I won't press charges..., no questions, nothing...I just want my pictures back. Please. I am heartbroken." 😁 UPDATE-Thanks to Craig Rekoske of the Shawano Sheriffs Dept my pad has been returned and the individuals responsible are in custody. Unfortunately, it was wiped clean and everything is gone. The sheriffs dept is currently working to restore everything, hoping for the best, miracles do happen."
