That girls are often unwanted barely makes news. But in one of the crudest and most horrifying manifestations of patriarchy, girls in some parts of Maharashtra are named Nakusa, which means unwanted. The word owes its origin to ‘nako aslely mulgi’ or unwanted girl child.

- Political will to take action.
- Awareness raising and promotion of mind-set change against son preference and the value of girls.

We need to make our country safe for all girls, for all children. #ENDviolence
