I couldn't believe how great this was! I expected a winter farmer's market to be a few turnips and a sack of potatoes, b...ut this was so much more! There were meats, seafood, dairy, vegetables, wool products, pies, ice cream, tamales, just about everything! The live music was great. Some merchants take credit cards, but it may be wise to bring cash. And shopping bags. I know people like me can get pretty smug and preachy about shopping local, but someone told me to look at it like this: if you spend $40 at a chain store, you're probably helping some CEO buy their fourth vacation home. If you spend $40 at a local store or merchant, you're helping them pay for karate class for their kids, get haircuts, and support other local merchants in the area. I plan on coming to this farmer's market as often as possible. Ver mais

Swung by for the first time today since missing Union Square Farmer's Market, and this winter setup may be even better t...han its warmer weather counterpart! Great setup with the music and band on stage, and love the rest made goods section upstairs (with the likes of the Tipping Cow, Barismo, Sunny Knoll Alpaca Farm, Mycoterra mushrooms, and the first time seeing 1634 Meadery and their fragrant honey elixirs!) As with Union Square Farmers Market, need not worry if you carry plastic. Buy tokens from the host stand! Same great cast of characters in a warm, lively indoor setting for the winter months. Also, tasting the delicious chocolates from Chocolats Passion (my favorite was the pistachio raspberry!) and ooh-ing over the rustic cutting boards from Boston Handyworks was a highlight. Please invite these community vendors back!!! Ver mais

What a beautiful box of vegetables delivered by Freedom Food Farm to their Somerville Winter CSA members earlier this week! Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a great way for you to help support your favorite farm by paying upfront to help cover operating costs at the beginning of the growing season. In return, members receive a weekly share of the farm's harvest throughout the season. Talk to your favorite farm on Saturday about their CSA options!

Massachusetts dairy farmers are turning to technology in cool ways!

Sixth-generation family farmers Dave and Steve Barstow have stretched the limits of what dairy farmers can do to stay afloat. They opened a store and bakery on their dairy farm at the foot of Mt. Holyoke in Hadley. They generate electricity from composted cow manure and food scraps. They even market...
